Accounts Manager
THE OPPORTUNITY
Are you an experienced Accounts Manager looking for an opportunity offering greater responsibility, a varied client portfolio and the flexibility of hybrid working?
Butler Rose is recruiting on behalf of an established and forward-thinking accountancy practice in Halifax, which is looking to strengthen its team with an experienced Accounts Manager.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and collaborative working environment, where you'll take ownership of your own client portfolio, work closely with partners and play an important role in managing workflow and supporting the development of junior colleagues.
The position would suit an ambitious ACA or ACCA qualified accountant who has developed strong technical and client management experience within a UK accountancy practice and is looking for a role offering autonomy, variety and continued career development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Working closely with the partners, colleagues and a varied client base, your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a portfolio of clients, overseeing the delivery of accountancy services and maintaining high standards of client care
- Preparing and reviewing year-end accounts and financial statements for sole traders, partnerships, charities and limited companies
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships, including attending client meetings and providing practical accounting and financial advice
- Supporting the delivery of statutory audit assignments, including attending client sites and assisting junior team members
- Managing workflow within the team, allocating assignments and ensuring resources are used effectively
- Reviewing work completed by junior colleagues, ensuring accuracy, quality and compliance with relevant accounting standards
- Monitoring team performance and supporting the efficient delivery of client assignments
- Ensuring work is completed within agreed budgets and deadlines
- Providing guidance, mentoring and technical support to junior team members
- Preparing and reviewing corporation tax returns and computations.
- Overseeing bookkeeping, VAT returns and Making Tax Digital submissions where required.
- Working closely with partners to identify client needs, resolve technical queries and deliver a proactive, professional service
ABOUT YOU
Were looking for someone who enjoys working in accountancy practice, takes pride in building strong client relationships and is confident managing both client assignments and supporting colleagues.
IDEALLY YOU'LL HAVE
- ACA or ACCA qualification
- Strong experience within a UK accountancy practice, ideally at Accounts Manager, Assistant Manager or experienced Senior level
- Proven experience managing a portfolio of clients and overseeing the delivery of accounts and taxation services
- Strong technical knowledge of statutory accounts preparation and relevant accounting standards
- Experience with statutory audit assignments, including working with audit teams and attending client sites
- Experience reviewing work, managing workflow and supporting junior colleagues
- A sound understanding of corporation tax, VAT and general practice compliance requirements
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to deal directly with clients and senior colleagues
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines
- A proactive, commercially aware approach with a genuine interest in delivering excellent client service
