The Opportunity

Butler Rose Procurement & Supply Chain is recruiting a Procurement Category Buyer on behalf of an established organisation within the technical manufacturing sector.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business where procurement plays a key role in supporting production, driving commercial value and strengthening supply chain performance.

Working alongside the Procurement Lead, you will manage a portfolio of suppliers and commodity groups, developing sourcing strategies and delivering improvements in cost, quality, delivery and supply chain resilience.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement category strategies aligned with business objectives and operational requirements.

Manage supplier relationships, ensuring strong performance across quality, cost and delivery.

Identify and deliver cost-saving opportunities through negotiation, value engineering and strategic sourcing.

Lead supplier negotiations, securing competitive pricing and favourable commercial agreements.

Evaluate supplier capability, performance and market conditions to support sourcing decisions.

Monitor supplier KPIs, addressing performance issues and driving continuous improvement.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver sourcing projects and support production requirements.

Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, ensuring continuity of supply.

Maintain compliance with contractual obligations, company policies and relevant regulatory requirements.

About You

Previous experience in a Buyer or Procurement role, ideally within a manufacturing environment.

Experience using ERP systems, with a good understanding of MRP processes.

Knowledge of procurement within the technical manufacturing sector or a similar environment.

Strong commercial, analytical and negotiation skills.

Excellent stakeholder management and supplier relationship skills.

Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and meet deadlines.

CIPS qualification or working towards professional accreditation would be advantageous.

We are seeking a commercially minded Category Buyer to join their procurement team and play a key role in managing supplier relationships, driving cost reductions, and ensuring an efficient and reliable supply chain.

The Role

Reporting into the Procurement Manager, you will take responsibility for managing a range of product categories, ensuring supplier performance, cost competitiveness, and product availability. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business to support sourcing activities, new product introductions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing and developing relationships with existing suppliersIdentifying and delivering cost-saving opportunities across assigned categoriesRunning RFQs and leading sourcing activities to support business requirementsNegotiating pricing, terms, and long-term supply agreementsMonitoring supplier performance across cost, quality, delivery, and service levelsSupporting new product introductions and product life cycle management activitiesWorking collaboratively with internal stakeholders to ensure supply continuityManaging procurement projects and contributing to category strategiesIdentifying and mitigating supply chain risksAnalysing market trends and supplier performance data to support decision-making

About You

The successful candidate will have:

Previous purchasing, buying or procurement experience within a distribution, manufacturing or engineering environmentStrong supplier negotiation and relationship management skillsExperience managing cost reduction and sourcing projectsGood commercial awareness and analytical abilityStrong communication and stakeholder management skillsProficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly ExcelExperience using ERP/MRP systems (SAP experience would be advantageous)The ability to work independently whilst managing multiple prioritiesProject or continuous improvement experience would be beneficial
