About the Company

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an established and growing financial services business as a Purchase Ledger Administrator.

This is a key role within the Finance team, offering a varied workload with responsibility for the day-to-day purchase ledger and employee expenses processes, alongside wider finance support.

The Role

Working closely with the Finance Manager and wider business, you will take ownership of the purchase ledger process while supporting a range of day-to-day and month-end finance activities.

Key ResponsibilitiesProcessing and accurately coding purchase invoicesCoordinating the weekly supplier payment runProcessing employee expenses and ensuring compliance with company policyManaging company credit cardsHandling daily banking transactions and maintaining the cash bookManaging cost centres and providing reporting as requiredResolving purchase ledger and expenses queriesProcessing payments, transfers and refundsSupporting month-end activities, including accrualsProviding cover and support across other areas of the Finance teamWorking closely with the Finance Manager and key stakeholders across the businessTaking ownership of the purchase ledger process within the finance systemIdentifying and implementing opportunities for process improvementSupporting and training an Accounts AssistantAbout You

We're looking for someone with experience in Purchase Ledger, Accounts Payable or a similar finance environment, who is organised, detail-focused and keen to take ownership of their work.

You'll ideally have:

Experience working with financial systems and ExcelStrong attention to detail and accuracyExcellent organisation and time management skillsThe ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication and relationship-building skillsA logical and analytical approach to resolving queriesThe ability to work to deadlines and under pressureA proactive approach with a genuine interest in improving processesWhat's on Offer?

Role Responsibilities

Undertake bookkeeping for a diverse portfolio of clients across a range of industries.Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and within deadlines.Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with clients.Respond to client queries and provide bookkeeping support where required.Ensure accurate financial records are maintained using cloud accounting software.

Personal Requirements

A minimum of 2 years bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice.AAT Level 3 qualified (or equivalent).Strong working knowledge of Xero and QuickBooks Online (QBO).Experience using CCH would be advantageous.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.A proactive approach with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

The Opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Payroll Administrator to join a friendly and progressive accountancy practice in Chester. This role offers the chance to join a collaborative team environment and take on greater responsibility in a growing firm.
If you have strong end-to-end payroll experience, ideally with a practice background, and you're looking for more responsibility and long-term career development, this could be the ideal next step in your career.

The Role
As part of a busy payroll team, you'll manage a diverse portfolio of small and high-volume payrolls, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and delivering excellent service to clients.

Key responsibilities include:

* End-to-end processing of weekly and monthly payrolls
* Managing auto-enrolment pensions
* Handling payroll queries in a timely and professional manner
* Liaising with HMRC and pension providers
* Processing BACS, PAYE, CIS, holiday pay, SMP/SSP
* Managing starters and leavers (P45s/P46s)
* Supporting P11D processing
* Staying up to date with payroll legislation
* Mentoring and supporting junior team members
You will receive full system training and ongoing support within a friendly, collaborative team environment.

About You
* Proven payroll experience (accountancy practice or bureau preferred)
* Strong understanding of payroll legislation and processes
* Experience with BrightPay (desirable)
* Ability to manage multiple payrolls and meet deadlines
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Proactive, organised, and capable of working independently and as part of a team
* Proficient in Microsoft Office

* Salary up to £31,000 (depending on experience)
