Role Requirements -

The role will play a key part in the team taking the lead on a variety of advisory projects as well supporting the corporate tax compliance team with complex technical queries.Act as a senior technical resource for the corporate tax compliance team, providing guidance on a range of complex tax matters and ensuring high-quality delivery across the board.Lead and support on a wide range of advisory assignments including restructures, group planning, transactions, international tax issues, and R&D claims.Play an active role in networking, attending industry events, preparing proposals, and identifying new business opportunities both independently and in collaboration with other service lines.Support and develop a growing team, acting as a mentor and technical coach. Butler Rose is working with one of the largest housing associations in London and the South-East in their search for a Service Charge Officer for their Places & Estates directorate. This is a contract role till 5th October 2025 with hybrid working (3 days in the office, Mondays are mandatory) and will pay £23.23 PAYE an hour to the successful candidate.

The main part of the role will be delivering a backlog of service charge accounts, which have been held up due to issues/errors in them - to resolve the issues, you might need to visit the site to get a better understanding of the physical structure and components (although not in every case).

Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead service charge projects, working through a defined number of service charge accounts that have been issued a Section 20B notice, ensuring audit and delivery within the 6-month period.
- Review historic service charge accounts, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, including Estate Operations Managers.
- Investigate and resolve errors or issues in service charge accounts this may include visiting sites to better understand property structures and components.
- Respond to resident complaints and queries regarding historic service charge accounts.
- Support resident engagement activities, documenting all decisions, outcomes, and lessons learned.
- Assist with the delivery of backlog service charge accounts ensuring compliance and audit readiness.

The ideal candidate will:
- Proven experience working compliantly with variable service charge regimes, particularly on large mixed-tenure schemes.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to reconcile and work through complex service charge accounts.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders to reach solutions.
- Significant experience in analysing complex data and presenting findings to support business decisions.
- Sound understanding of tenancy agreements and lease interpretation.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex service charge information clearly to residents.
- Advanced IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of the RICS Service Charge Residential Code and ICAEW Tech 03/11 guidance.
- Good understanding of the Landlord and Tenant Act (1985), particularly Section 19 relating to the reasonableness of costs.
- Ideally AIRPM or TPI Leasehold Management qualified.

Your core responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Serve as a point of contact for all expense management subjects with, internal stakeholders, suppliers and clients.Comply with business regulations to uphold financial and non-financial expectations.Review and manage the accurate set-up of Client and Assignee files within internal management systems.Work with third party service provider to ensure accuracy of records and reporting is maintained to the highest standards.Ensure up to date and full understanding of individual client policies and processes in order that these are strictly adhered to when managing and auditing claims.To manage client mailboxes to the highest standard and respond to queries and requests within 24 hours.Resolve client, assignee and third-party queries to the agreed arrangements set within service level agreements.Ensure accurate supplier (third-party) records are maintained within the management system tracking reimbursement and refunds.Generate fee invoices for submission to clients in accordance with an agreed timetable.Take responsibility for data integrity when maintaining assignee files and trackers with allowance, budgets and utilities, recording approved claims and invoices within the management system.Promptly escalate issues or concerns as appropriate to line management, to ensure full guidance and support is obtained and corrective action is taken.Manage the payment process, ensuring regular float and bank reconciliation processes are in line with client deadlines and payments are made in accordance with due dates.
