Butler Rose is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading manufacturer of bespoke engineered products in the Plymouth area. We are seeking an experienced Planning Manager to join their team and play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence.
Reporting directly to senior management, the Planning Manager will be responsible for implementing and maintaining demand planning and production scheduling processes through the effective management of the Planning department. This position is key in ensuring customer satisfaction through accurate forecasting, efficient production scheduling, and strong supply chain collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
Take ownership of the production planning cycle, ensuring schedules are developed and delivered in line with customer requirements and OTIF targets.Manage and refine planning processes to guarantee the smooth allocation of resources and efficient work flow across operations.Partner closely with the manufacturing function to anticipate demand and align production activities with overall sales objectives.Make full use of ERP systems to streamline supply chain performance and identify opportunities for process enhancement.Work collaboratively with supply chain colleagues to track inventory, making timely adjustments to production schedules in response to changing demand.Maintain stock levels at an optimum balance - meeting production needs and commercial goals without creating surplus.Use historical trends and data analysis to sharpen forecasting accuracy and support the development of sales and revenue projections.Provide direction and leadership to the Planning team, overseeing their training, development, and day-to-day performance.Ensure production schedules are coordinated effectively, taking into account both material availability and manufacturing capacity.Champion continuous improvement by identifying and driving initiatives that improve planning efficiency, capacity management, and stock control.Build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and customers, ensuring expectations are clearly managed and consistently met.Candidate profile:
Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related discipline.Strong knowledge of production planning principles and the use of ERP platforms.Background in a manufacturing environment, with proven success in planning, scheduling.Familiar with systems integration, reporting tools, and demand planning applications.Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as pivot tables and data analysis; knowledge of MRP systems.What's on offer:

The Role
Reporting to senior management, you will be responsible for overseeing production scheduling and ensuring that resources, materials, and capacity align with customer demand. You will work closely with operations, sales, and procurement teams to keep production running smoothly, proactively address challenges, and help drive efficiencies across the business. The role offers a competitive salary range, with the client open to considering applicants with different levels of skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Forecast, plan, and schedule production and picks in line with demand.Determine manpower, equipment, and materials required to meet production targets.Assign and monitor daily production and picking activities.Maintain oversight of stock levels and collaborate with colleagues to meet requirements.Track jobs/orders to ensure timely completion.Resolve production issues promptly to minimise delays.Provide progress updates to stakeholders as needed.Recommend and implement process improvements to meet delivery and quality targets.Produce regular reports on relevant data.Candidate Profile
Previous experience in production planning and/or operations is essential.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage confidently across all levels.Excellent organisational and analytical abilities, with a high attention to detail.Experience of ERP systems is highly desirable.Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).A proactive, reliable, and self-motivated approach.Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.Team-oriented with a collaborative working style.What's on Offer
