Looking for more than just your next Accounts Senior role?
If you're an experienced Accounts Senior who has built a strong foundation in practice and are now looking for more responsibility, greater client exposure and a genuine route into management, this could be an opportunity worth exploring.
An established independent accountancy practice in St Helen's is looking for an ACA/ACCA qualified, part-qualified or QBE accountant with around 7 years UK practice experience to join its growing team.
You'll manage your own portfolio of owner-managed businesses, limited companies, partnerships and not-for-profit organisations, working closely with clients and Directors rather than simply processing accounts behind the scenes.
And importantly, there is a genuine opportunity to progress to Accounts Manager as the practice continues to grow.
What could your next step look like?
You'll take ownership of your own portfolio, preparing predominantly year-end and statutory accounts, alongside around 20% management accounts.
You'll also have the opportunity to:
If you have audit experience, that's a bonus. The practice has a small audit team and would welcome someone who can provide occasional support during particularly busy periods, although audit is not a core requirement of the role.
A practice where you can make an impact
You'll be joining an established independent practice of around 28 staff and four Directors, with approximately 10 people across the accounts and bookkeeping function.
The firm works predominantly with owner-managed and SME businesses, providing a personal and proactive service rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
You'll have direct access to the Directors, giving you the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge, strengthen your client relationships and play a bigger part in the development of the practice.
For someone who wants to progress, this is particularly important. The successful candidate will report directly to the Directors, with clear potential to progress to Accounts Manager for the right person.
Are you the right fit?
You'll ideally have:
Whats in it for you?
Salary up to £42,000, depending on experienceGenuine progression to Accounts ManagerDirect exposure to DirectorsYour own varied portfolio of owner-managed and SME clientsContinued professional developmentFriendly and personable independent practice environmentThe opportunity to build a long-term career rather than simply move into another Accounts Senior position
If you're an experienced Accounts Senior who feels ready for the next step, but want to join a practice where that progression is genuinely achievable, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
APPLY NOW or contact Butler Rose for a confidential discussion.

THIS ISN'T YOUR TYPICAL PRACTICE ROLE
If you are an experienced practice accountant who has reached the point where you want to have an influence rather than simply process work, this could be an opportunity worth exploring.
We are working on behalf of a successful, independent accountancy practice that has built its reputation through relationships, trust and genuinely personal client service.
The owner is now looking for someone to become their trusted Number 2 - someone who can bring their own ideas, challenge constructively, take ownership and help shape the next stage of the business.
AND THAT'S WHERE THE ROLE GETS INTERESTING
What will you actually be doing?
This is a deliberately broad position for someone who enjoys understanding businesses, solving problems and working with people, rather than sitting behind a desk producing accounts all day.
You'll be involved in:
This is not a role where you'll have to work your way through several layers of management before an idea can be implemented. You'll work directly with the owner and have genuine scope to influence how the practice develops.
THE BUSINESS BEHIND THE ROLE
This is an established independent practice with around 200 clients, predominantly owner-managed businesses and SMEs.
It has recently secured an exciting new opportunity which could ultimately double the size of the practice allowing them to organically grow their team year on year.
So whilst the business is deliberately retaining its personal, close-knit feel, growth is very much on the agenda.
The ambition is to continue building the team steadily over the coming years, creating an environment where people can grow with the business rather than simply filling a seat.
WHO ARE THEY LOOKING FOR?
Here's the important bit.
The owner isn't looking for a particular qualification on a piece of paper. They are looking for the right person.
You'll ideally have circa10 years accountancy practice experience and be comfortable working with owner-managed businesses.
You might be ACA/ACCA qualified, AAT qualified or QBE - technical credibility and practical experience matter more than letters after your name.
MORE IMPORTANTLY, YOU'LL BE SOMEONE WHO:
PERSONALITY MATTERS ENORMOUSLY HERE
You could be technically brilliant, but if you don't enjoy people, this probably isn't the environment for you.
Equally, if you're an excellent client-facing accountant who wants more autonomy, more variety and the opportunity to actually influence a business, this could be a very different kind of practice opportunity.
And what about the working environment?
The office is deliberately small and personable, and being present with the team and clients is important.
That said, the business recognises that experienced professionals have lives outside work and is open to flexible working arrangements, including the potential for one day working from home and flexibility around working hours for the right person.
INTERESTED?
If you're an experienced commercially minded practice accountant who has been thinking:
"I know I can do more than just prepare accounts, but I want the right environment to actually make a difference…"
then we'd very much like to hear from you so if this opportunity is everything you've been searching for APPLY TODAY
