We are recruiting for an experienced and fully qualified Finance Manager to join a growing, project-led business in Manchester.
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will take ownership of the monthly accounts process, financial controls, statutory compliance and project reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded accountant who enjoys working autonomously and making a real impact within the finance function.
The Role
Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and month-end journals.Own the month-end close process and maintain robust financial controls.Complete and review all key balance sheet reconciliations.Produce cash flow forecasts, budgets and variance analysis.Support project accounting, cost tracking and profitability reporting.Prepare VAT returns and manage HMRC correspondence.Assist with statutory accounts preparation and year-end audit requirements.Monitor debtor and creditor positions, providing meaningful financial insight to management.About You
Fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA.Previous experience in a Management Accountant or similar role.Strong month-end and management accounts experience.Excellent reconciliation and financial control skills.Experience preparing VAT returns and managing compliance requirements.Sage experience is essential.Confident communicator with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.Desirable
Experience within construction, engineering or another project-based environment.Knowledge of project accounting and cost reporting.Experience using Eque2 or a similar ERP system.Previous involvement in audit and statutory accounts preparation.What's on Offer?

Responsibilities:
* Lead the stabilisation and improvement of AP and AR operations, including clearing outstanding postings, unreconciled items, unallocated cash and legacy backlogs.
* Perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions to strengthen financial controls.
* Develop and embed process improvements, including process maps, SOPs and control frameworks to improve accuracy and efficiency.
* Establish operational KPIs and reporting to monitor performance and support continuous improvement.
* Work closely with Financial Reporting, Business Partnering and wider finance teams to embed a consistent month-end timetable and robust transactional controls.
* Support training, coaching and capability development across transactional finance teams.
* Act as a key link between transactional finance and wider business areas, providing insight on operational performance, risks and issues.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant housing association and statutory policies, procedures, health and safety requirements and financial regulations.
Required Experience:
* Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
* Significant experience within Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable or financial operations leadership.
* Strong experience in reconciliations, process improvement and resolving complex transactional issues.
* Proven ability to analyse root causes and implement effective solutions.
* Experience creating process documentation, controls and operational improvements.
* Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work collaboratively across finance teams.
* Excellent attention to detail, organisation and communication skills.
* Ability to lead, influence and support teams within a fast-paced environment.
