Accounts Executive

£40,000 - £45,000
A unique and growing accountancy practice is seeking an experienced and qualified accounts professional to join its growing team in Bury St Edmunds. This is a client-facing role supporting a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses, limited companies, partnerships and sole traders across a wide range of sectors. The successful candidate will prepare and review accounts and tax compliance work, provide practical business advice, support junior team members and help deliver an exceptional client experience.
Role Responsibilities
- Managing a portfolio of clients, acting as a trusted adviser and providing day-to-day business and accounting support.
- Reviewing statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and LLPs.
- Preparing more complex accounts and draft tax computations for review.
- Identifying advisory opportunities and supporting clients in achieving their business objectives.
- Ensuring compliance with internal procedures, risk management processes and departmental standards.
- Undertaking technical research and supporting ad hoc client projects.
- Managing work allocation, deadlines, recoverability and client expectations.
- Monitoring WIP, productivity and fee recovery.
- Supporting, training and mentoring junior team members.
- Liaising with clients, professional intermediaries and colleagues across tax, legal and financial planning teams.
- Ensuring all work is completed to a high technical standard before review.
- Maintaining CPD requirements and keeping technical knowledge up to date.
Personal Requirements
- Minimum five years' current or recent experience working within a UK accountancy practice (essential).
- ACA qualified or qualified by experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of statutory accounts preparation and UK taxation.
- Experience working with owner-managed businesses, limited companies, partnerships and sole traders.
- Commercial awareness, including WIP management, recoverability and client service standards.
- Previous experience reviewing work and supporting junior team members.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a confident client-facing approach.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- A collaborative and proactive approach to working with colleagues across multiple service lines.
- Full, unrestricted right to work in the UK is essential. Sponsorship is not available.
