A unique and growing accountancy practice is seeking an experienced Accounts Manager to join its Bury St Edmunds office. This is a client-facing role focused on managing a portfolio of owner-managed businesses, including limited companies, partnerships, LLPs and sole traders across a variety of sectors. You will review statutory accounts, provide practical commercial advice, identify advisory opportunities, support junior team members and work closely with colleagues across accounts, tax, legal and financial planning to deliver a joined-up service.
Role Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of owner-managed businesses, acting as a trusted adviser and supporting clients with their business objectives.
- Review accounts for sole traders, partnerships, LLPs and limited companies.
- Deal with new client enquiries and assist with onboarding.
- Identify advisory opportunities and provide practical business advice.
- Manage client work to agreed timescales while maintaining a high standard of client service.
- Carry out ad hoc client work and technical research where required.
- Apply accounting knowledge to resolve technical issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Monitor WIP, recoverability, productivity and fee income across your portfolio.
- Assist with billing and maintain control over client work.
- Train, mentor and support junior members of the accounts team.
- Review files to ensure they meet the required standards before senior review.
- Liaise with clients, professional intermediaries and third parties.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across accounts, tax, legal and financial planning.
- Maintain appropriate CPD and keep technical knowledge up to date.
Personal Requirements
- Minimum 7 years' relevant experience within a UK accountancy practice.
- ACA qualified, or qualified through relevant practice experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of accounts and UK accounting requirements.
- Proven experience managing a portfolio of external clients within an accountancy practice.
- Commercial awareness, including an understanding of WIP, recoverability, productivity and fee income.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to research and resolve technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence explaining complex accounting and tax matters to clients.
- Professional and confident client-facing manner with the ability to build long-term relationships.
- Highly organised with strong time management skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Experience supporting, training or mentoring junior members of a practice team.
- Collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across different professional service departments.
- Full, unrestricted right to work in the UK, sponsorship is not available for this position.
