Butler Rose Procurement & Supply Chain is exclusively representing a well-established manufacturing organisation in the search for an experienced Production Planner to join its Planning function.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and analytical planning professional to take ownership of the tactical execution of the production plan across a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The Production Planner will be responsible for managing the 0-30-day planning horizon, ensuring production priorities are aligned with customer requirements and that work orders are material-ready, capacity-ready and released in line with agreed schedules.
Working closely with Production, Purchasing, Stores, Engineering, Quality, Dispatch and Sales, you will play a key role in maintaining production flow, identifying risks and driving recovery actions to protect customer delivery commitments.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Schedule Execution
- Execute and maintain the production plan across the rolling 0-30-day planning horizon.
- Ensure work orders are released and progressed in line with business priorities and customer commitments.
- Ensure orders are material-clear, capacity-clear and ready for manufacture ahead of planned start dates.
- Monitor schedule adherence and drive recovery actions where production falls behind plan.
- Develop and maintain recovery plans for overdue and at-risk orders.
- Expedite materials, manufacturing activities and support functions to protect customer deliveries.
- Escalate significant risks, constraints and recovery requirements to the Lead Operations Planner.
Material & Capacity Readiness
- Work closely with Purchasing and Stores to ensure material availability supports production requirements.
- Identify, manage and escalate material shortages and supply risks.
- Monitor short-term work centre loading and resource constraints.
- Maintain visibility of production demand within the 30-60-day horizon, identifying emerging risks.
- Provide accurate planning data and forward visibility to support capacity planning and resource allocation.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Act as the primary planning interface for Production Leaders, ensuring production priorities remain aligned to the agreed plan.
- Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Dispatch and Sales to maintain production flow.
- Provide achievable delivery and order release dates based on material availability, capacity and production priorities.
- Build effective working relationships across operational functions to resolve planning issues quickly and effectively.
Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain accurate planning data within ERP/MRP systems.
- Analyse planning and production data to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Generate planning reports and communicate risks, delays and recovery actions to key stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on delivery performance, schedule adherence and operational efficiency.
- Support KPI reporting and planning performance reviews.
About You
The successful candidate will have previous experience within production planning, production control, supply chain planning or scheduling in a manufacturing environment.
You will be highly organised, analytical and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills are essential, as you will work closely with production and wider operational teams to resolve issues and maintain delivery performance.
Essential Experience
- HNC/HND, apprenticeship, relevant vocational qualification or equivalent experience within a manufacturing planning environment.
- Experience in production planning, production control, supply chain planning or manufacturing scheduling.
- Experience managing production schedules and material availability.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems within a manufacturing environment.
This role offers a combination of office-based and manufacturing/shop-floor working, with regular interaction across Production and wider operational teams.
You will operate within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
