Working closely with Production, Purchasing, Stores, Engineering, Quality, Dispatch and Sales, you will play a key role in maintaining production flow, identifying risks and driving recovery actions to protect customer delivery commitments.

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning & Schedule Execution

  • Execute and maintain the production plan across the rolling 0-30-day planning horizon.
  • Ensure work orders are released and progressed in line with business priorities and customer commitments.
  • Ensure orders are material-clear, capacity-clear and ready for manufacture ahead of planned start dates.
  • Monitor schedule adherence and drive recovery actions where production falls behind plan.
  • Develop and maintain recovery plans for overdue and at-risk orders.
  • Expedite materials, manufacturing activities and support functions to protect customer deliveries.
  • Escalate significant risks, constraints and recovery requirements to the Lead Operations Planner.

Material & Capacity Readiness

  • Work closely with Purchasing and Stores to ensure material availability supports production requirements.
  • Identify, manage and escalate material shortages and supply risks.
  • Monitor short-term work centre loading and resource constraints.
  • Maintain visibility of production demand within the 30-60-day horizon, identifying emerging risks.
  • Provide accurate planning data and forward visibility to support capacity planning and resource allocation.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Act as the primary planning interface for Production Leaders, ensuring production priorities remain aligned to the agreed plan.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Dispatch and Sales to maintain production flow.
  • Provide achievable delivery and order release dates based on material availability, capacity and production priorities.
  • Build effective working relationships across operational functions to resolve planning issues quickly and effectively.

Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain accurate planning data within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Analyse planning and production data to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Generate planning reports and communicate risks, delays and recovery actions to key stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on delivery performance, schedule adherence and operational efficiency.
  • Support KPI reporting and planning performance reviews.

  • HNC/HND, apprenticeship, relevant vocational qualification or equivalent experience within a manufacturing planning environment.
  • Experience in production planning, production control, supply chain planning or manufacturing scheduling.
  • Experience managing production schedules and material availability.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems within a manufacturing environment.

This role offers a combination of office-based and manufacturing/shop-floor working, with regular interaction across Production and wider operational teams.

You will operate within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
