Payroll Administrator - Accountancy Practice
Are you an experienced Payroll Administrator, Payroll Executive or Payroll Officer currently working within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau and looking for a role where you can take ownership of your own client portfolio?
We are working with a highly established and rapidly growing accountancy and business advisory group that is looking to strengthen its Rotherham payroll team with an experienced payroll professional.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a sizeable and ambitious firm at an exciting stage of its development. The wider group employs around 300 people, with the Rotherham office currently home to approximately 25 staff and set to grow significantly to circa 40 staff over the next few months.
The Rotherham office acts as an important payroll hub for the wider business, supporting clients across Rotherham, Sheffield and other offices within the group.
THE ROLE
You will take responsibility for managing your own portfolio of payroll clients, typically consisting of around 50-100 clients, ranging from small owner-managed businesses through to larger employers with approximately 200 employees.
This is a varied, payroll position requiring strong organisational skills, accuracy and the ability to manage multiple payroll deadlines.
Responsibilities are expected to include:
* Managing a portfolio of weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls
* Processing payroll from start to finish for a broad range of clients
* Processing starters, leavers, salary amendments, bonuses, overtime and other payroll changes
* Calculating statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP and other statutory leave
* Processing PAYE, National Insurance and pension deductions
* Completing RTI submissions to HMRC
* Managing auto-enrolment and workplace pension requirements
* Producing payslips, payroll reports and associated client documentation
* Processing year-end payroll requirements, including P60s and other statutory reporting
* Liaising directly with clients regarding payroll queries and information requirements
* Ensuring payrolls are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines
* Maintaining compliance with current payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
* Supporting the on-boarding of new payroll clients where required
* Resolving payroll discrepancies and more detailed client queries
* Working closely with colleagues across payroll, accounts and the wider practice
ABOUT YOU
We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who already have experience working within an accountancy practice, payroll bureau or outsourced payroll environment.
You are likely to have:
* Previous experience managing multiple client payrolls
* Experience working across weekly, fortnightly and monthly payroll cycles
* Confidence managing your own portfolio and deadlines
* Strong knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance and statutory payments
* Good understanding of auto-enrolment and workplace pensions
* Experience completing RTI submissions
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy
* The confidence to deal directly with clients and resolve payroll queries
* The ability to prioritise a busy workload across multiple payroll deadlines
Experience using BrightPay would be highly advantageous, although candidates with strong experience of other payroll systems will also be considered.
A CIPP qualification would be beneficial but is not essential. Candidates who are interested in studying towards CIPP may also be supported with their professional development.
THE TEAM
You will join an established payroll function within the Rotherham office, working alongside experienced payroll colleagues as well as wider accounts and business advisory teams.
Rotherham is one of the groups larger offices and acts as a central point for payroll services across a number of locations.
The firm continues to grow through both organic development and acquisition, providing excellent long-term opportunities for someone who wants to build their career within a substantial and progressive accountancy group.
There may occasionally be opportunities to visit other offices within the group for training or team development.
WHAT'S ON OFFER?
* Salary of £30,000 - £36,000, depending on experience
* 37.5 hour working week
* Free on-site parking
* Additional parking available in a nearby multi-storey
* Established and supportive payroll team
* Ownership of your own client portfolio
* Exposure to a broad mix of clients and payroll sizes
* Support towards CIPP development where appropriate
* Opportunity to join a growing regional accountancy group
* Long-term career development within an expanding business
The role is predominantly office based in Rotherham, although the firm can offer flexibility as and when required.
If you are an experienced payroll professional currently working within practice or bureau and are looking for a stable, varied role within a growing firm, I would be very interested in speaking with you.
