Butler Rose is delighted to be working with a well-established and highly respected Devon manufacturer to recruit an experienced Toolmaker. This is an excellent opportunity to join a secure, growing business that combines traditional engineering expertise with modern manufacturing technology.
Working as part of a skilled in-house toolroom team, you will be involved in the manufacture, maintenance and development of precision tooling that supports the production of high-quality products supplied to customers worldwide. This is a rare opportunity to work on projects from concept through to finished product, giving you real ownership and visibility of your work.
The Role
As Toolmaker, your responsibilities will include:
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints and technical specifications
- Manufacturing, assembling and fitting precision press and mould tools
- Operating a range of equipment including CNC lathes, CNC and manual milling machines, EDM machines, machining centres and grinding equipment
- Carrying out preventative maintenance, repairs and modifications to tooling
- Supporting new product development through tool manufacture and improvement projects
- Working closely with engineering and production teams to develop practical tooling solutions
- Maintaining accurate records of tooling designs, modifications and specifications
- Ensuring all work is completed to required quality and safety standards
- Assisting with continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing activities
About You
We are keen to speak with candidates who have:
Previous experience as a Toolmaker, Precision Engineer or similar tooling position
- Strong machining and tool making skills within a manufacturing environment
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding abilities
- A positive, proactive approach and willingness to learn
- The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- An understanding of lean manufacturing principles would be advantageous
