The Opportunity

Butler Rose is recruiting for a Document Control Lead to join a growing operational business on a full-timein Ulverston.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Information Management professional who enjoys leading document control, governance, and business management systems within a complex operational environment. You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring critical business and technical information is accurately managed, compliant, and readily accessible, supporting safe, efficient, and well-governed operations.

The Role

As the BMS & Document Control Lead, you'll oversee Information Management and Business Management Systems across the organisation, ensuring robust document control processes, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of information governance practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Information Management and Business Management System activities across the business.
  • Maintain and continuously improve document control processes, procedures, and governance standards.
  • Manage technical documents, drawings, registers, and business-critical records throughout their lifecycle.
  • Ensure documentation meets quality standards before publication, storage, and distribution.
  • Maintain document numbering systems and tracking processes across multiple teams.
  • Produce document control reports and monitor document status, revisions, and compliance.
  • Support the management of large volumes of structured and unstructured business information.
  • Coordinate the secure distribution, retrieval, and archiving of critical documentation.
  • Conduct regular document assurance activities, including controlled drawing management.
  • Work with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure information remains accurate, accessible, and compliant.
  • Manage third-party document management support where required.
  • Deliver training and guidance to colleagues on document control processes and Business Management Systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve information governance and operational efficiency through better systems and processes.

About You

You'll be an organised and detail-focused Information Management professional with experience managing documentation in a regulated or technical environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience leading Document Control and Information Management activities.
  • Strong understanding of Business Management Systems and governance processes.
  • Experience using Electronic Document and Records Management Systems (EDRMS).
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to improve processes and reporting.
  • Experience managing large volumes of technical and business-critical documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of document lifecycle management, data governance, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple departments.

Desirable

  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience.
  • Information Management qualification or similar professional accreditation.
  • Experience within engineering, manufacturing, energy, or other highly regulated industries would be advantageous.
