Cost Controller

Location: Barrow In Furness

Contract: Full-Time | 2-Year Fixed-Term Contract

The Opportunity

Butler Rose is recruiting for a Cost Controller to join a growing operational finance team on a full-time, two-year fixed-term contract in Barrow-in-Furness.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in finance, commercial administration, or cost control who wants to develop their career within a fast-paced engineering or industrial environment. Working alongside an experienced Senior Cost Controller, you'll help deliver accurate financial reporting, support commercial governance, and ensure operational spend is effectively managed.

The Role

You'll work closely with finance, engineering, and operational teams to provide accurate cost reporting, maintain financial controls, and support procurement activities across a range of operational projects.

Key Responsibilities

Produce cost reports and monitor designated areas of expenditure against approved budgets.Support the preparation of monthly accruals and operating expenditure forecasts.Maintain detailed cost trackers and assist with month-end reporting activities.Extract and analyse SAP data, including Value of Work Done (VOWD), to provide meaningful financial insights.Assist with variance analysis against budgets, forecasts, and cost baselines.Review contractor costs and highlight potential risks, inefficiencies, or overspend.Monitor timewriting and follow up on outstanding or missing timesheet submissions.Support procure-to-pay processes by raising purchase requisitions and maintaining purchase orders.Ensure purchase orders are correctly coded, accurately maintained, and closed promptly once completed.Process service entries within SAP for invoices and proforma payments.Review change requests to ensure appropriate approvals are in place before work begins.Help identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency, including reviewing equipment and rental expenditure.Participate in meetings with internal stakeholders and suppliers to support financial governance.

About You

We're looking for someone who is organised, analytical, and keen to build on their experience within cost control and commercial finance.

Essential Skills & Experience

Previous experience using SAP.Strong Microsoft Excel skills.Good numerical and analytical abilities.Excellent attention to detail.Ability to work collaboratively with finance and operational teams.Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Desirable Experience

Previous experience within Finance, Cost Control, or Commercial Administration.Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, and procure-to-pay processes.Experience within engineering, manufacturing, energy, or other operational industries would be beneficial.HNC in Business Management or a related qualification is desirable.

Are you an experienced Cost Controller looking for your next challenge? We're recruiting for a Senior Cost Controller to join a busy operational finance team supporting large-scale maintenance, engineering and capital projects on a full-time, two-year fixed-term contract.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with operational teams, finance colleagues and suppliers to provide financial oversight, improve cost visibility and help ensure projects are delivered within budget. You'll play a key role in forecasting, commercial governance and identifying opportunities to drive efficiencies across the business.

Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare monthly accruals and operating expenditure forecasts, maintaining accurate cost trackers to support month-end reporting.Analyse actual spend against budget, investigate variances and provide meaningful financial insight to budget holders.Monitor SAP data, including Value of Work Done (VOWD), working alongside engineers and finance teams.Review contractor cost reports, highlighting risks, trends and opportunities to improve cost performance.Identify inefficiencies and support initiatives that deliver better commercial outcomes.Support procurement and commercial governance by reviewing purchase orders, change requests and coding accuracy.Ensure procure-to-pay processes are followed and completed purchase orders are closed promptly.Review equipment and rental costs to identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary expenditure.Assist with variation control and support single-source procurement justifications where required.Attend internal and supplier meetings, providing financial support and cost control expertise.What We're Looking For

You'll be a commercially aware finance professional with excellent analytical skills and the confidence to work with stakeholders across operational and finance functions.

Previous experience in Cost Control, Finance or Commercial Administration.Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting and cost management processes.Experience using SAP and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.Excellent numerical and analytical ability.Strong communication and presentation skills.High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Desirable

HNC in Business Management or a related discipline.Experience within engineering, energy, manufacturing or other industrial sectors.Knowledge of both operator and contractor environments would be advantageous.Understanding of procure-to-pay and contract cost management processes.Why Apply?
