Project Accounting Manager (Project Finance Function)
Location: West London / Berkshire (2-3 days per week on-site)
Duration: ASAP start, c. 6 months
Rate: £450-£600/day (Dependent on Experience)
We are supporting a confidential, high-growth organisation with the appointment of experienced Project Accounting / Commercial Finance specialists. This is a hands-on technical role focused on improving project accounting, revenue recognition, reporting, controls and commercial finance processes across a complex project-led environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with finance, commercial, project management and delivery teams to review existing practices, identify inconsistencies and help build practical, reliable processes that can be adopted across the business.
Key responsibilities will include:
Reviewing project accounting processes, including percentage completion, revenue recognition triggers and project margin reporting.Applying technical accounting principles, including IFRS 15 and FRS 102, to a complex project-led environment.Reconciling project information to Finance and the general ledger.Improving estimates to complete, cost-to-complete reporting and project margin visibility.Working with large, inconsistent datasets to identify discrepancies and improve reporting accuracy.Building practical processes, controls and tools that support consistent project reporting.Partnering with commercial, project management and delivery teams to support adoption of improved processes.Challenging existing assumptions and simplifying complex accounting matters for non-finance stakeholders.The successful candidate will bring:
Strong hands-on experience of IFRS 15 and revenue recognition in practice.Experience working with complex, long-term or multi-disciplinary contracts.Project accounting experience, including percentage completion, WIP, EAC, ETC and project margin analysis.A background in complex project-led environments, long-term contracts, major capital projects or similar settings.Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills, with the ability to work with large and inconsistent datasets.Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and build credibility with commercial and operational teams.A practical, investigative and solution-focused approach.Confidence working in a changing environment where processes are still being developed or improved.This role would suit a technically strong accountant who is comfortable working in a complex project-led environment, simplifying technical accounting issues and helping a business move towards more consistent, reliable and commercially useful reporting.

We are supporting a confidential, high-growth organisation with the appointment of a Project Accounting Manager. This is a hands-on role focused on understanding current processes, improving data quality, strengthening controls and developing more reliable reporting within a complex project-led environment.
The successful candidate will be joining an area where processes are less established, so this role will initially require investigation, analysis and problem-solving before moving into process improvement and implementation.
Key responsibilities will include:
Investigating existing project finance processes to understand how work is captured, costed, transferred and reported.
Reviewing data quality, manual processes and system-related issues that affect reporting accuracy.
Improving job costing, completeness, cut-off and revenue recognition processes.
Identifying gaps in controls, reporting and reconciliations.
Working with information from multiple systems and manual sources to create clearer, more reliable reporting.
Supporting the development of practical processes and controls where current arrangements are limited or inconsistent.
Reviewing intercompany issues across project-led activities and supporting more accurate reporting.
Partnering with Finance, Commercial and operational stakeholders to implement sustainable improvements.
The successful candidate will bring:
Experience in commercial finance, project accounting, operational finance or a similar process-led finance role.
Strong technical accounting awareness, including revenue recognition, cut-off and completeness.
Experience improving finance processes, controls, reconciliations and reporting.
Strong data analysis and Excel skills, with the ability to work through incomplete or inconsistent information.
Experience working with ERP or operational systems, with NetSuite experience considered advantageous.
A practical and investigative approach, with the ability to work out what is happening before designing a solution.
Confidence working with operational and commercial stakeholders to challenge, explain and implement improvements.
Comfort operating in an environment where processes are still being defined, corrected or built.
This role would suit a solution-focused finance professional who enjoys getting into the detail, understanding how processes operate and helping create more reliable controls and reporting from the ground up.
