Interim Project Accountant - 6 months
We are seeking an experienced Interim Project Accountant to support a critical piece of group‑wide change across COGS and stock reporting, systems, and operational processes.
This is a hands‑on transformation role, combining finance expertise, systems understanding, and project management, with a strong focus on developing consistent, scalable group‑wide stock management processes - not just for finance, but across the wider business.
The Role
Working closely with Finance, Merchandising, IT and other key stakeholders, you will:
Lead and support projects to improve the accuracy, consistency and transparency of COGS and stock reportingNavigate and assess existing finance and stock systems, identifying gaps, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvementAct as a bridge between Finance, Merchandising, IT and Operations to align data, processes and reportingHelp design and implement group‑wide stock and inventory management processesDocument and create clear, practical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for stock, COGS and related processesAbout You
We are looking for someone who combines strong technical finance capability with excellent systems and project experience. You will likely have:
Proven experience as an Interim Project Accountant, Finance Systems Accountant or similarStrong knowledge of COGS, stock and inventory accountingExperience working with and navigating ERP / finance and stock systemsA track record of process improvement and documentation (SOP writing)Experience working cross‑functionally with non‑finance teams (e.g. Merchandising, IT, Operations)Strong stakeholder management and communication skills - able to translate finance concepts for the wider businessA pragmatic, delivery‑focused mindset with the ability to work comfortably in an evolving project environmentAssignment Details

Part-time hours are approximately 20 hrs per week, with flexibility around working days and start times to suit the successful candidate. Office based.
This role is ideal for a hands-on finance professional who enjoys working across the sales ledger and receivables, supporting the wider finance team and playing an active role in the day-to-day financial operations of a fast-paced business.
The Role
Reporting into the Finance Manager, the Accounts Assistant will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely sales ledger processing, effective cash collection and supporting month-end and year-end activities. You will also work closely with internal teams and external customers to resolve queries efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-invoicing administration
Raising customer invoices via finance and operational systems, including manual invoicing
Management and control of the receivables ledger
Cash collection activities, including statements, customer contact and query resolution
Aged debt analysis and management of overdue balances
Weekly cash receipt forecasting
Assisting with month-end reconciliations and year-end transactions
Maintaining strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders
Invoice and credit note administration
Providing cross-cover support to Accounts Payable when required
Ad hoc finance tasks to support the wider team
About You
Essential:
Proven experience in a sales ledger or accounts assistant role
Good numerical ability and accounting knowledge (AAT or CBE would be an advantage)
Intermediate Excel skills
Strong attention to detail with a logical and methodical approach
Excellent organisation, time management and prioritisation skills
Confident communicator with the ability to resolve queries promptly
Willingness to learn and develop professionally
Desirable:
Experience using Sage 50
Background in a fast-paced or high-growth business
Experience within an SME or logistics / transport / distribution environment
