A leading Oxfordshire-based charity, dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children across the UK, is seeking an experienced Head of Finance to join on an initial 12-month contract during an important period of change and growth.
This is an exciting opportunity for a finance leader who wants to make a tangible difference while enjoying the flexibility of a part-time, hybrid role. You will report directly to the CEO, working closely with the leadership team, and oversee a small but busy finance function-balancing hands-on financial management with strategic oversight.
What you'll be doing:
Lead the preparation and sign-off of management accountsDeliver insightful financial reporting to the Board, including presenting at monthly Board meetingsOversee KPI reporting, year-end accounts and the external audit processManage budgets, forecasts, and regular re-forecasting cyclesEnsure compliance with all financial regulations (Charity Commission, SORP, HMRC, pensions)Work with the CEO to shape and implement financial strategySupport and mentor the Finance Manager, fostering their professional developmentWhat we're looking for:

The Role
We're seeking a Head of Finance to provide strategic oversight and ensure high standards of financial governance. This is a part-time role (2-3 days per week) on a 12-month contract. You'll mainly work remotely, with just one day per month required in the office.
You will lead and support the finance function, work closely with senior leadership and trustees and contribute to organisational strategy while managing financial risks and ensuring compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Produce monthly management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, and KPIs
Lead on year-end statutory accounts and audit management
Develop financial strategy and ensure regulatory compliance (Charity Commission, SORP, HMRC, pensions)
Oversee payroll and pension schemes, liaising with external providers
Manage financial systems (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks) and payroll systems
Risk management across finance and IT, business continuity planning, and insurance
Complete government returns
Line management of the Finance Manager and oversight of the finance team
Work collaboratively with non-financial managers, senior leadership, and trustees
Support change management and digital transformation projects
About You
Qualified Accountant with 5+ years in a senior accounting role
Strong communicator and strategic thinker, with analytical and critical thinking skills
Experience in charity finance and regulatory compliance desirable
Skilled in leading and developing teams
Comfortable working collaboratively at senior levels
Values-driven and adaptable, with a solutions-focused approach
Available at short notice (ideally by the end of October)
What's on Offer
Part-time (2-3 days per week) - WFH, with attendance to the office once a month
12-month contract
Salary up to c£56,000 (The salary is quoted on a full-time equivalent basis and will be pro rata for PT hours)
30 days' annual leave (pro rata) plus bank holidays
