Butler Rose is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client for a commercially minded Financial Controller to join their finance team on a part-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified finance professional looking for a flexible, influential role with senior exposure and the chance to make a real impact across the business.
Reporting directly to the UK CFO, this is a key role with responsibility for financial reporting, month-end management accounts, statutory compliance and financial controls. You will also provide commercial insight through margin analysis, variance reporting and costing information, helping to support decision-making and drive continuous improvement.

About you
You will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or senior finance role. Experience within manufacturing would be beneficial, particularly where standard costing, stock, margins or operational finance are involved, but we would also welcome candidates from other product-based, project-led or complex commercial environments.
You will be comfortable working with management accounts, financial reporting, controls and commercial analysis, with strong Excel skills and the ability to partner effectively with both finance and non-finance teams. Exposure to standard costing, Bills of Materials, labour routings or variance analysis would be advantageous, but training and support can be provided for candidates with strong transferable experience. Experience of D365 would be helpful, although not essential.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional looking for a varied and influential part-time role, working closely with senior leadership and operational teams while benefiting from flexibility around working hours.

The Role
Reporting into the Director, you will take ownership of the UK payroll function, ensuring an accurate, efficient and compliant end-to-end payroll service.
Key challenges and areas of focus will include:
* Managing the delivery of seven UK payrolls covering approximately 1,100 employees
* Leading, developing and embedding a newly recruited payroll team
* Managing the relationship and service delivery with Cintra
* Improving and optimising Workday and SAP integrations
* Supporting the implementation of ServiceNow workflows
* Strengthening payroll governance and relationships with HR and Finance stakeholders
* Ensuring full compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and RTI reporting
* Driving greater automation, process improvement and efficiency
* Maintaining robust payroll controls, reconciliations and audit processes
The Payroll Manager will also act as the organisations UK payroll subject matter expert, providing technical guidance to senior stakeholders across HR, Finance and Operations.
The Person
We are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager with a strong technical understanding of UK payroll legislation and demonstrable experience managing an in-house payroll operation.
You will ideally have:
* Previous experience leading and developing a payroll team
* Strong payroll compliance, reconciliations and controls experience
* Experience working with integrated HR/payroll systems
* A track record of delivering payroll process improvement and change
* Strong Excel and data management skills
* Excellent stakeholder management skills
Experience within a manufacturing, multi-site or shared services type environment would be particularly beneficial, as would exposure to Cintra, SAP and Workday.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Manager who enjoys combining technical payroll leadership with systems improvement, change and team development.
