Role Responsibilities

Working with a portfolio of predominantly OMB clients.Preparing and submitting VAT returns.Carrying out bookkeeping and maintaining accurate accounting records.Preparing year-end accounts.Preparing year-end tax returns.Dealing with client queries and providing day-to-day accountancy support.Working independently across a varied client base, with minimal supervision.Using accounting and tax software including VT, Taxpad, Xero and QuickBooks.

Personal Requirements

Butler Rose is working with one of the largest housing associations in London and the South East to recruit a Finance Officer (Accounts Payable) to support their team. This is a minimum three-month temporary role, offering hybrid working and paying up to £19.54 per hour PAYE or £25.84 per hour via an Umbrella company.

Hours: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, 35 hours per week (1-hour unpaid break)
Working Pattern: Hybrid, with a minimum of 2 days in the office (Kings Cross). Tuesday is mandatory as a team day the second day is flexible depending on business needs.
Training: Required to work full-time in the office for the first couple of weeks during training, after which the hybrid arrangement applies as above.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced, high-volume finance environment.

Responsibilities:
* Review and reconcile supplier accounts and all payments made from NHG bank accounts to ensure accuracy and identify any discrepancies.
* Process supplier invoices and/or other payments accurately and timely, ensuring adherence to procedures and financial regulations.
* Address enquiries from internal stakeholders and external suppliers, resolving any issues or disputes following escalation chains where necessary for swift resolution.
* Coordinate with property management teams, local authorities, and government departments to address any payment related problems or concerns
* Assist in the implementation and improvement of all processes and procedures.
* Ensure that you follow and keep up to date with all relevant Notting Hill Genesis and statutory policies and related procedures including health and safety and financial regulations.

Required Experience:
* Proven experience in an accounts payable role, processing high volumes of invoices.
* Housing experience and D365 system experience not essential but a definite benefit.
* Proficiency in using accounting software and MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy is crucial with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills (both written and oral).
* Ability to take direction when required and work as part of a busy high-performing team to meet tight deadlines.

As the group continues to expand its portfolio, we are seeking an experienced Property Accountant to take responsibility for the financial management of a varied portfolio of residential and commercial rental properties.

This is a broad, hands-on role covering all aspects of property accounting, including rent and service charge accounting, maintenance expenditure, VAT, reconciliations, financial reporting and the accurate processing of transactions through the movement/payment gateway.

Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of the day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of residential and commercial rental properties.Maintain accurate property, tenant, landlord and supplier financial records.Manage rent accounting, including rent demands, receipts, arrears and tenant account reconciliations.Process and reconcile all incoming and outgoing funds through the movement/payment gateway.Ensure the accurate allocation and transfer of rent, deposits, fees and other property-related transactions.Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports for property owners and senior management.Manage all property-related accounts payable and accounts receivable activity.Review, process and reconcile maintenance, contractor and supplier expenditure.Ensure maintenance costs are correctly authorised, coded and allocated to the appropriate property or landlord.Complete bank, balance sheet, tenant ledger and control account reconciliations.Prepare and submit VAT returns, ensuring the correct treatment of residential and commercial property transactions.Monitor cash flow and ensure sufficient funds are available to meet property-related commitments.Support rent reviews, lease events, tenant changes, property acquisitions and disposals from an accounting perspective.Liaise with property managers, landlords, tenants, contractors and external advisers regarding financial matters.Maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, client money requirements and internal procedures.Identify and implement improvements to property accounting processes, systems and reporting.

Essential Experience

Recent and demonstrable property accounting experience gained within a property management company.Direct experience managing the accounts for a portfolio containing both residential and commercial rental properties.Strong knowledge of rent accounting, maintenance expenditure, service charges and property-related financial transactions.Practical experience of VAT within a property environment, including the differing treatment of residential and commercial properties.

Person Specification
