We are looking for a strategic yet hands-on Financial Controller to take ownership of my clients finance function during a period of rapid growth. Reporting directly to the CFO and CEO, you will oversee all financial operations, implement robust processes, and play a central role in fundraising and capital deployment.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the finance function of a high-growth climate-tech business, with a clear path to Head of Finance as the company continues to expand.

Key Responsibilities
Lead day-to-day financial operations: general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, VAT, tax compliance, and reporting
Deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual accounts, management packs, and board reports
Ensure compliance with HMRC, Companies House, VAT, and audit requirements
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management aligned with company strategy
Partner with leadership on investor relations, financial modelling, and fundraising activity
Manage reporting of grants, public funding, and R&D tax credits
Implement and optimise finance systems to support scale-up and manufacturing operations
Coordinate external advisors including auditors, tax specialists, and legal counsel
Strengthen governance, mitigate financial risk, and embed internal controls
Mentor and develop a growing finance team, supporting collaboration across R&D and operations
Build a scalable finance function to support the journey from pilot stage to commercial deployment
Essential:
5+ years' experience in finance/accounting roles (Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or equivalent) within start-up or growth businesses
Strong understanding of UK accounting standards, compliance, and statutory reporting
Proven expertise in cost control, financial modelling, VAT, year-end processes, and R&D tax credits
Proficiency in finance tools such as Excel, Sage, QuickBooks, Oracle, or similar
Experience liaising with auditors, banks, solicitors, and HMRC
Strong analytical skills, commercial awareness, and high attention to detail
Excellent communicator, confident in presenting financial insights to non-finance stakeholders
Fluent in English and eligible to work in the UK
Desirable:
Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
Experience in deep-tech, manufacturing, or R&D-heavy environments
Exposure to fundraising (Series A/B), investor reporting, or capital deployment
Experience managing grant funding, cost centres, or project-based accounting
ERP/accounting system implementation experience
Knowledge of carbon accounting, ESG reporting, or sustainability-linked finance
Track record of building finance teams and systems from early stage to scale-up
Passion for sustainability and mission-driven organisations
