Butler Rose are working closely with a well-established Independent Firm who currently has an opportunity for an Audit Manager to join their team.

Reporting to the Audit Senior Manager and Responsible Individual (RI), the Audit Manager will take ownership of a diverse portfolio of audit clients, overseeing the successful planning, delivery and management of audit engagements.

This is a key leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, commercial awareness and professional judgement, alongside the ability to lead, support and develop audit teams. The successful candidate will build strong client relationships and provide clear direction and stability, particularly when working under pressure or through periods of change.

Key Responsibilities:

Managing the full audit lifecycle, from planning through to completion, in line with ISAs and firm quality standards.Managing client relationships, acting as a key point of contact and identifying opportunities to add value.Leading, developing and motivating audit teams through effective delegation, coaching and regular feedback.Monitoring budgets, WIP, billing and recoverability to support portfolio performance.Maintaining strong professional standards, sound judgement and effective communication, particularly during periods of pressure or change.Ensuring compliance with ISQM 1, AML and firm policies, while reviewing work to ensure it meets the required quality standards.Supporting the Audit Senior Manager and RI with risk escalation, training, CPD and departmental initiatives.Contributing to business development, tenders, client pitches and recruitment activities.Working collaboratively with colleagues across the firm to promote a culture of trust, professionalism and continuous improvement.

ABOUT YOU

Proven experience of working in a professional practice environment at Audit Manager level.Demonstrable experience of managing an audit portfolio and maintaining strong client relationships.Strong technical knowledge of auditing standards and regulatory requirements.Strong technical knowledge of auditing standards and regulatory requirements.ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent) with a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience and at least 7 years' experience in audit.

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced audit professional to take responsibility for coordinating and supervising the activities of the external audit department, including the management of teams, workflow, and client relationships. The successful candidate will also play a key role in ensuring effective controls are maintained and supporting the firm's practice assurance and compliance requirements.

Role Requirements -

Lead and manage audit teams to ensure timely completion of audits and achievement of audit objective.Manage and deliver audit engagements from planning through to completion - reporting directly to the RI.Resource planning including booking of audits and onsite audit team.Provide guidance and training to audit staff, and promote a culture of continuous improvement and learning.Support the firm with audit and practice assurance compliance. Liaise with external providers during compliance visits and file reviews.Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices, and incorporate them into audit processes and procedures.Any other ad hoc work as required.

Personal Requirements -

Assistant Manager/Audit Manager experience in UK accountancy practice.ACA or ACCA qualified.Ability to manage and coach a team.Excellent communication skills.

Butler Rose Public Practice is delighted to be supporting a highly regarded independent accountancy practice in Central London in the recruitment of an Audit & Accounts Senior/Manager.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ACA or ACCA qualified accountant with strong audit experience to join a long-established two-partner firm. Offering a varied portfolio of high-quality clients, this hands-on role combines audit and accounts work (70 audit/30 accounts split), with the opportunity to manage your own client portfolio and build long-term client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Lead audit assignments from planning through to completionPrepare statutory accounts for a varied portfolio of SME and owner-managed businessesManage your own portfolio of clients, acting as their main point of contactPrepare corporate and personal tax compliance work (training provided where required)Build strong relationships with clients across a range of sectorsLiaise closely with Managers and Associate Directors to deliver high-quality client serviceWork with IRIS and MyWorkPapers to prepare audit and accounts assignments


Key Requirements

ACA or ACCA qualified (Essential)Minimum 4 years experience within a UK accountancy practiceStrong experience leading audits from planning through to completionExperience preparing statutory accountsConfident managing client relationships and working independentlyIRIS experience would be advantageousHands-on approach with excellent communication and organisational skills

Butler Rose Public Practice is delighted to be supporting a highly respected Top 50 firm of Chartered Accountants in their search for a talented Audit & Accounts Senior/Assistant to join their Audit team in the Milton Keynes office.

As an Audit & Accounts Senior/Assistant Manager, you will report to the Audit Managers and take responsibility for leading audits and supervising junior members of the team. The role offers an approximate split of 80% audit and 20% accounts preparation, giving you a broad and varied workload.


Key Responsibilities:

Manage and deliver audits from planning through to completion (approx. 80% audit / 20% accounts).Planning, supervising and carrying out audits with turnovers up to £250 million, including specialist audits (e.g. charities, pensions, solicitors, schools, FSA)Supervise junior staff, providing technical guidance and on-the-job support.Prepare draft corporation tax computations and statutory accounts under FRS 102.Prepare consolidated accounts and assist with group reporting where required.Draft management recommendations following audit fieldwork.Review and finalise audit files within deadlines and budgets.

Key Requirements:

ACA / ACCA qualified - Ideally first time passesMinimum 3 years' experience in an accountancy practice with strong audit exposure.Confident managing audits for clients with turnovers up to £250m.Proficiency in CCH, ProAudit, Sage, QuickBooks, Xero, and Alphatax (Desirable)Excellent communication skills, both with clients and team members.Strong organisational skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
