A long-established and respected chartered accountancy practice based just outside Cambridge is seeking an Audit and Accounts professional to join its growing team. The firm has a strong reputation for providing tailored audit, assurance and business services to owner-managed businesses, charities and not-for-profit organisations. They are looking for someone with solid practice experience who can take ownership of their own portfolio while contributing to the wider team. The role can be shaped to suit the successful candidate's strengths, offering a balance of audit and business services work, or a focus on one area if preferred.

Role Requirements

Conduct statutory audits of a varied portfolio of clients (owner-managed businesses, charities, NFPs) under supervision and on own-account where appropriate.Prepare and review year-end accounts (sole traders, partnerships, limited companies) and liaise with clients and tax teams as required.Management accounts, cash-flow/forecasting support, client advisory work and proactively identify opportunities for added-value services.Attend client meetings, understand client needs, deliver high quality service and act as a point of contact.Support senior staff in proposals, client-onboarding and identifying new service lines.Keep up-to-date with accounting/ auditing standards, charity & NFP regulatory requirements and contribute to continuous improvement within the team.Support and mentor more junior team members and contribute to a positive team culture.

Personal Requirements

At least 3 years' practice experience.Experience of executing audits in a practice environment; ideally with exposure to charities and not-for-profit organisations.Comfortable preparing accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships and offering business-services advice.Strong technical knowledge of accounting and auditing standardsAn eagerness to continue professional development.Excellent communication skills, able to build rapport with clients, present findings and explain complex issues in plain English.A proactive, commercially aware mindset, able to spot opportunities, take initiative and work independently while also being a team player.Able to handle multiple assignments, prioritise workload whilst maintaining high standards and meeting deadlines.A positive attitude, willingness to learn and adapt and enthusiasm for both audit and business services work.

Prepare and review personal tax returns for a portfolio of clients, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.Prepare and review corporation tax returns and associated computations, providing accurate and timely submissions.Provide technical advice and guidance on routine tax matters to clients and colleagues.Maintain and develop strong relationships with clients, acting as their first point of contact for tax related queries.Identify opportunities for tax planning and advisory work, supporting clients in achieving efficient tax outcomes.Work closely with other teams within the practice to ensure coordinated delivery of services.Keep up to date with UK tax legislation, ensuring clients are informed of any relevant changes.Mentor and support junior team members, providing guidance and training as required.Participate in business development initiatives and assist with marketing or client engagement events when needed.

What we're looking for

Strong experience in personal tax compliance.Experience in corporation tax compliance.Recent experience working in a UK practice environment.Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with tax software and Microsoft Office.Experience in tax planning is desirable but not essential.
