Butler Rose Northern Practice Division is delighted to be working with a highly regarded independent accountancy and business advisory firm who are recruiting for a VAT & Indirect Tax Manager to join their growing tax consultancy team. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As VAT & Indirect Tax Manager your key responsibilities will be as follows:

Assist in delivering complex VAT advisory projects alongside the Senior Manager, managing your own portfolio of clientsProactively identify new planning and advisory opportunities from your client baseStay updated on changes in tax legislation, case law, and guidance that affect VAT and indirect tax, and assess their impact on client businessesManage projects effectively, ensuring deadlines are met and that both time and budget expectations are adhered toBuild and maintain strong relationships with clients, business partners, and intermediaries to raise the firm's profile in the marketCollaborate with the Senior Manager to identify and develop business development opportunities within the VAT and indirect tax space.


IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:

The firm is looking for a highly motivated individual who can drive growth in their VAT advisory services.

To be successful, in the role of VAT & Indirect Tax Manager, you will need to have:

A minimum of 5 years of experience in VAT advisory, with a proven track record of working across a variety of sectorsStrong technical knowledge of VAT and indirect taxes, with the ability to advise on complex mattersCommercially minded, with the ability to manage your workload effectively and help guide more junior team membersExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues alikeA proactive approach, with a keen eye for spotting new opportunities and developing them further.

THE ROLE:

The role of Audit & Accounts Senior offers a varied workload with a 50/50 split between audit and accounts responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of tasks and thrives in a dynamic environment. Your week may include management accounts, VAT, and year-end accounts one week, followed by audits for larger clients the next.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As Audit & Accounts Senior, you key responsibilities will include:

Managing a portfolio of clients, including audits for companies ranging from £10m to £50m in turnoverLeading audits and preparing financial statements for a wide range of industries, including hospitality, manufacturing, retail, and moreSupporting the Directors with business planning and tax compliancePreparing and reviewing management accounts, VAT returns, and year-end accountsLiaising directly with clients to ensure high-quality service deliveryManaging junior staff and providing support and mentoring where appropriate


ABOUT YOU:

The ideal candidate will have experience in both audit and accounts, with a solid understanding of UK GAAP.

You should be comfortable managing your own portfolio, with the ability to balance multiple tasks effectively. The firm would particularly welcome someone who is ACA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent), though those with relevant experience at a semi-senior level will also be considered.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Qualified ACA/ACCA (or equivalent), or studying towardsExperience in audit and accounts preparation within a practice environmentProficient in accounting software such as Sage, Xero, Quickbooks, and IrisFamiliarity with audit software, such as Mercia or bespoke audit packagesStrong communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleaguesAbility to manage a diverse workload and prioritise tasks effectively
