A leading, forward-thinking accountancy practice is seeking an experienced Tax Director to lead and develop its Northampton tax team. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an accomplished tax professional who enjoys building strong client relationships, delivering strategic tax advice, developing talented teams, and driving business growth. Working with a diverse portfolio of businesses, charities, family-owned companies and private clients, you will play a key role in shaping the firm's tax offering while ensuring the highest standards of technical excellence and client service.

Role Responsibilities

Lead, manage and grow the firm's tax advisory and compliance practice, setting the strategic direction for the department.Provide high-quality tax advisory services across a broad range of areas, including tax planning, compliance, mergers and acquisitions, international tax and transfer pricing.Develop innovative tax strategies that optimise clients' tax positions while remaining fully compliant with UK tax legislation.Build, maintain and strengthen long-term client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser.Identify and develop new business opportunities, contributing to the continued growth of the tax practice.Lead, mentor and develop a team of tax professionals, supporting their technical and professional development.Ensure compliance with UK tax legislation and keep clients informed of legislative changes and their impact.Work collaboratively with colleagues across other service lines to deliver integrated advice and solutions.Manage complex client matters while maintaining exceptional standards of service and technical quality.

Personal Requirements

CTA or ACA/CTA qualified.Minimum of 10 years' experience in tax advisory, including significant experience in a senior leadership role.Extensive experience within an accountancy practice or large professional services tax environment.In-depth knowledge of UK tax legislation and experience advising on complex tax matters.Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.Strong business development skills with a track record of identifying and securing new opportunities.Experienced leader with a passion for mentoring and developing others.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly to clients.Commercially aware with strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.Adaptable, resilient and committed to delivering exceptional client service.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Corporate Tax Director to lead a growing corporate tax function within a well-established accountancy practice in Greater Manchester.

This is a senior leadership role, offering the opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio of corporate clients, deliver high-value advisory services, and shape the strategic direction of the tax team.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in corporate tax, strong leadership skills, and the ability to develop talent within the team while maintaining excellent client relationships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and manage the corporate tax function, ensuring high-quality advisory and compliance servicesOversee a portfolio of corporate clients, including owner-managed businesses, SMEs, and larger corporate groupsProvide strategic tax planning advice, including corporate structuring, R&D incentives, capital allowances, international tax, and M&A due diligence.Act as the primary liaison with HMRC for senior client matters, risk management, and complex queriesMentor senior and junior tax team members, promoting professional development and technical excellenceSupport business development initiatives, identifying opportunities to expand advisory services and attract new clientsManage budgeting, billing, and WIP for the corporate tax department, ensuring efficiency and profitabilityStay current with tax legislation and professional developments, providing thought leadership internally and externally


REQUIREMENTS

ACA/ACCA/ CTA qualified10+ years' corporate tax experience in professional practice or corporate advisory, with at least 5 years in a leadership roleExperience managing a large and complex client portfolio independentlyExpertise in advisory projects, including international tax, share valuations, restructuring, and M&AProven leadership skills, with experience mentoring senior and junior staffExcellent communication skills for client engagement, team leadership, and stakeholder managementStrong analytical, strategic, and business development acumen


SALARY & BENEFITS

Base Salary: £65,000 - £90,000 per year (depending on experience).Total compensation includes performance-based incentives, benefits, and referral bonuses.Generous holiday allowance, flexible benefits, pension contributions, and other perks

Working closely with the Corporate Tax Partner, this is a senior, technically focused role where you will lead the delivery of complex corporate tax advisory projects while also overseeing high-level compliance work for some of the firm's largest and most complex clients. The role is primarily advisory focused and will involve providing clear, commercially focused tax advice across a broad range of corporate matters.
