Duration: ASAP start, c. 6 months
Rate: £450-£600/day (Dependent on Experience)
A leading engineering and infrastructure organisation is establishing a brand-new Commercial Finance function to support its unprecedented growth. With individual project values now reaching hundreds of millions of pounds, the business requires an experienced Interim Project Accounting Manager to act as a critical technical and commercial bridge between Finance, Quantity Surveyors (QS), and Project Delivery teams.
This is a newly created position where youll play a pivotal role in improving financial controls, project reporting, revenue recognition and commercial governance across a complex portfolio of large-scale projects.

The Role
As Project Accounting Manager, you will act as the key link between Finance and Commercial functions, ensuring project performance, revenue recognition and reporting are fully aligned.
Youll inherit an environment where project accounting has developed as the business has grown, creating opportunities to strengthen controls, improve consistency and enhance reporting across multiple disciplines.
The first few months will involve significant discovery work, relationship building and the implementation of quick wins, as you help establish best practice and support the development of a scalable finance structure.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the financial bridge between Finance, Commercial and Project Delivery teams.
* Review and improve project accounting processes, controls and governance.
* Ensure consistency between project reporting, financial reporting and commercial reporting.
* Analyse project margins, job costings, contingencies and provisions.
* Challenge inconsistencies within reporting data and resolve underlying issues.
* Support accurate revenue recognition across complex, multi-obligation contracts.
* Ensure compliance with IFRS 15 and IFRS 102.
* Develop financial models and reporting tools to support decision-making.
* Consolidate and simplify complex data sets into meaningful management information.
* Drive process improvements and improve adoption of accounting policies and procedures.
* Partner with senior stakeholders across Commercial, Finance and Operations.
About You
Were looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with exceptional stakeholder engagement skills.
Youll likely have:
* You must possess a strong working knowledge of IFRS 15 and IFRS 102, with proven experience applying these standards on a day-to-day basis in depth across large-scale, multi-disciplinary organisations.
* Significant project accounting experience within engineering, construction, infrastructure, manufacturing or EPC environments.
* Experience supporting long-term contracts involving multiple performance obligations.
* Commercial awareness and the ability to work effectively with non-finance stakeholders.
* Exceptional financial modelling capabilities.
* Experience analysing and manipulating large, complex data sets.
* The ability to identify problems, simplify complexity and implement practical solutions.
* Confidence to challenge and influence stakeholders at all levels.
