Butler Rose are delighted to be partnering with a well-established and growing manufacturing business in the Honiton area to recruit a Production Engineer. The RoleAs a Production Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting all engineering, maintenance, and technical improvement activities across the site. You will be responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, driving process efficiency, and implementing cost-saving initiatives through proactive maintenance and problem-solving.
Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance & Reliability
Carry out planned and preventative maintenance to maximise equipment uptime and reliability.
Respond effectively to reactive maintenance requirements, minimising downtime and preventing recurrence.
Analyse breakdowns and implement lasting corrective actions.
Ensure all machinery meets reliability and safety standards.
Continuous Improvement & Cost Reduction
Identify opportunities for process efficiency, waste reduction, and cost savings.
Lead and support continuous improvement projects to enhance productivity and equipment performance.
Utilise root cause analysis and structured problem-solving techniques to deliver measurable improvements.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure all engineering activities are conducted in accordance with health, safety, and environmental policies.
Maintain compliance with relevant industry standards and company procedures.
Support audits and inspections by maintaining accurate records and ensuring safe systems of work.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with production, quality, and operations teams to align engineering efforts with wider business goals.
Provide clear reporting on key engineering metrics such as machine availability, downtime, and cost savings achieved.
About YouProven experience in a production or maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing environment (ideally food, FMCG, or similar).
Strong understanding of planned maintenance systems, fault diagnosis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach.
Commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

The Role
As Head of Production Engineering, you'll be at the forefront of:
Overseeing day-to-day production engineering activities, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.Taking a hands-on approach to problem-solving, troubleshooting processes, and applying robust technical solutions.Using your expertise in assembly processes and welding techniques (spot, projection, MIG, TIG, robotic) to improve workflows and resolve challenges.Producing accurate manufacturing costings, ROI calculations, and process justifications.Working closely with production teams to identify opportunities for material savings, tooling improvements, and lean practices.Leading and mentoring a skilled team of engineers, sharing knowledge and developing capability across the department.About You
