Butler Rose is working with a well-established and growing manufacturer in the Honiton area to recruit an experienced Production Planning Manager.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven planning professional to take ownership of production planning activities, lead a small team, and play a key role in improving operational performance across the business.
The Role
Reporting into senior leadership, you will be responsible for managing production planning processes end-to-end, ensuring efficient schedules, strong customer delivery performance, and continuous improvement across planning systems and processes.
Key responsibilities will include:
Translating demand and capacity requirements into achievable production plansManaging and optimising planning and scheduling systems (MRP / ERP)Monitoring capacity, identifying bottlenecks, and driving improvements in outputWorking closely with production, procurement, and stores teams to ensure alignmentAnalysing BOMs to support make vs buy decisionsSupporting cost estimation and quoting through material and labour analysisLeading, coaching, and developing the production planning teamDriving improvements through KPI tracking and data-led decision makingEnsuring data accuracy across planning systems and processesAbout You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Proven experience in a production planning or scheduling role within manufacturingExperience leading or mentoring a teamStrong understanding of capacity planning, demand forecasting, and MRP systemsExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsThe ability to communicate effectively across multiple departmentsA proactive approach with strong organisational skillsWhat's On Offer

Reporting into the Purchasing & Planning Director, this role will take full ownership of production planning activities, leading a small specialist team and working closely with production and purchasing functions to deliver strong customer service, efficient manufacturing output and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the translation of high-level demand and capacity plans into robust, achievable master production plansDrive customer service performance through accurate planning and effective executionWork closely with inventory and supply chain colleagues to ensure appropriate stock policies, inventory levels and safety stocks are maintainedUtilise and continually improve the effective use of planning and scheduling systems (including MRP and finite scheduling tools) to generate and manage production work ordersManage capacity and resources, identifying and resolving bottlenecks to optimise production efficiencyProvide clear communication across planning, production and purchasing teams to ensure plans are understood and deliveredLead, motivate and develop the Production Planning team, ensuring high performance, adaptability and collaborative workingOwn and develop planning processes, using meaningful KPIs to monitor performance and support continuous improvementEnsure data accuracy across planning systems and use performance metrics to support strategic business objectivesAbout You
Proven experience in a production planning leadership role within a manufacturing environmentStrong understanding of demand forecasting, capacity planning and alignment to business strategyHands-on experience using MRP systems and production scheduling softwareDemonstrated ability to lead and develop a team, setting clear expectations and leading by exampleStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to make sound operational decisionsClear and confident communicator with the ability to work effectively across multiple functionsHighly organised, numerate and detail-focused, with a proactive and dynamic approachEngineering or technical background would be beneficial, though not essentialFlexible and adaptable, comfortable working in a varied and fast-paced manufacturing environmentThe Opportunity
