A leading top 40 accountancy practice is looking for a Personal Tax Trainee to join its Private Tax team in Stevenage. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in personal taxation within a supportive and collaborative environment. Working alongside experienced tax professionals, you'll gain hands-on experience managing personal tax compliance work while receiving structured training and support towards professional qualifications.
Role Responsibilities
Assist with the preparation of Self-Assessment tax returns for individuals, including sole traders, company directors, partnerships, landlords and investment clients.Gather, review and organise client information, ensuring records are accurate and complete.Input financial data into tax software and reconcile information against supporting documentation.Calculate basic personal tax liabilities.Monitor compliance deadlines and support the timely submission of HMRC filings.Prepare correspondence for clients and HMRC.Support the tax team with a range of administrative and technical tasks.Maintain accurate and organised client files.Liaise with clients to obtain information and resolve routine queries.Keep up to date with changes in UK personal tax legislation through training and self-development.Assist with Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance work.Request information for and prepare P11D returns.Assist with the preparation of sole trader accounts.Personal Requirements
Basic understanding of UK personal tax principles through study or previous experience.Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.Strong organisational and time management skills.Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.Clear written and verbal communication skills.Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.Previous experience within an accountancy practice is advantageous.Familiarity with tax software such as IRIS, CCH, TaxCalc or similar would be beneficial.Currently studying towards ATT or keen to begin professional studies is desirable.Positive, proactive attitude with a genuine willingness to learn.Professional, reliable and able to handle confidential information with discretion.Comfortable working to deadlines, particularly during busy periods.Benefits
