Our client, a large international manufacturing organisation based in Wantage, is seeking an experienced Assistant Payroll Manager to join their team on an initial 3-month contract.
This is a hands-on role supporting the delivery of an accurate and efficient payroll service within a busy, fast-paced environment. Working closely with the Payroll Manager, you'll play a key role in payroll processing, compliance, employee query resolution, and day-to-day payroll operations.
Key responsibilities
Supporting end-to-end payroll processingManaging salary changes, overtime, bonuses, and deductionsResolving payroll queries and discrepanciesAssisting with HMRC compliance, RTI submissions, and year-end activitiesPreparing payroll reports, reconciliations, and variance analysisSupporting and guiding payroll team membersKey skills required
Previous UK payroll experience is essentialStrong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirementsExperience with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, Sage, SAP, or similarStrong Excel and data management skillsExcellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilitiesThe ability to work effectively to tight deadlinesThis is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established global business and make an immediate impact within a supportive payroll team. Initially a 3-month period to support a busy period within the business but could be extended to a longer period and possibly made permanent.

Role Requirements-
Assist with the preparation of year-end accounts and management accounts.Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with Making Tax Digital requirements.Process weekly and monthly payroll for multiple clients, including PAYE, National Insurance, and statutory payments.Submit RTI reports to HM Revenue & Customs and assist with payroll year-end processes.Maintain accurate financial records and perform reconciliations.Provide support to clients with accounting software and respond to queries.Personal Requirements -
Previous experience within a UK accountancy practice or payroll environment.Familiarity with accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or IRIS.Strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines.Studying or interested in studying Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) would be advantageous.This is an outstanding opportunity for the right individual to join this firm of choice.
