ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Corporate Tax Director to lead a growing corporate tax function within a well-established accountancy practice in Greater Manchester.

This is a senior leadership role, offering the opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio of corporate clients, deliver high-value advisory services, and shape the strategic direction of the tax team.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in corporate tax, strong leadership skills, and the ability to develop talent within the team while maintaining excellent client relationships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and manage the corporate tax function, ensuring high-quality advisory and compliance servicesOversee a portfolio of corporate clients, including owner-managed businesses, SMEs, and larger corporate groupsProvide strategic tax planning advice, including corporate structuring, R&D incentives, capital allowances, international tax, and M&A due diligence.Act as the primary liaison with HMRC for senior client matters, risk management, and complex queriesMentor senior and junior tax team members, promoting professional development and technical excellenceSupport business development initiatives, identifying opportunities to expand advisory services and attract new clientsManage budgeting, billing, and WIP for the corporate tax department, ensuring efficiency and profitabilityStay current with tax legislation and professional developments, providing thought leadership internally and externally


REQUIREMENTS

ACA/ACCA/ CTA qualified10+ years' corporate tax experience in professional practice or corporate advisory, with at least 5 years in a leadership roleExperience managing a large and complex client portfolio independentlyExpertise in advisory projects, including international tax, share valuations, restructuring, and M&AProven leadership skills, with experience mentoring senior and junior staffExcellent communication skills for client engagement, team leadership, and stakeholder managementStrong analytical, strategic, and business development acumen


SALARY & BENEFITS

Base Salary: £65,000 - £90,000 per year (depending on experience).Total compensation includes performance-based incentives, benefits, and referral bonuses.Generous holiday allowance, flexible benefits, pension contributions, and other perks

We are working with a well-established, continually growing accountancy and financial services practice in Manchester. The firm operates across audit, corporate finance, business services, business recovery, payroll, company secretarial, and tax, with a tech-focused approach to client service.

The tax team is an integral part of the business, currently managing a large and diverse client base including owner-managed businesses, SMEs, high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, trusts, and multi-million-pound corporate groups across sectors such as property, healthcare, financial services, and professional services, to name but a few.

The firm is transitioning from a compliance-focused tax function to a strategic, advisory-led tax division, with technology enabling efficiency in compliance work to free up time for high-value advisory services. This is a unique opportunity for a senior tax professional to build, lead, and shape the tax division, creating distinct Corporate Tax and Personal Tax teams while implementing innovative systems and processes.

ROLE OVERVIEW - HEAD OF TAX

The Head of Tax will lead the tax function, driving both compliance and advisory services, and will be instrumental in transforming the division into a high-performing, profitable, and advisory-focused operation. This role offers autonomy, strategic influence, and the opportunity to develop future leaders within the tax team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the tax division, establishing clear structures and processes across Corporate Tax and Personal TaxRecruit, mentor, and develop senior leaders for Corporate Tax and Personal Tax, providing career progression and support for high-potential team membersOversee the implementation of tech-enabled compliance software for both divisions, ensuring efficient and streamlined processesDrive the shift from a compliance-led to advisory-led service model, focusing on high-value client work and growth opportunitiesManage existing corporate and personal tax portfolios, delivering advisory and compliance services at the highest standardIdentify and develop business opportunities within the existing client base and new marketMonitor divisional performance, ensuring profitability and long-term strategic growthAct as a visible leader within the wider business, embedding a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and client-focused service


WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

CTA qualified - EssentialACA /ACCA - DesirableExtensive corporate tax experience, ideally 10+ years, with significant leadership experienceProven ability to manage complex corporate and personal tax portfolios, including advisory workExperience in developing and mentoring tax teams and future leadersStrong strategic, commercial, and business development acumenConfident, decisive, and capable of operating autonomously at a senior level
