Part-Time Payroll Clerk (Temporary Contract) - Accountancy Practice

£18 per hour | 3-4 Days per Week

Butler Rose Public Practice is delighted to be supporting a well-established accountancy practice in the recruitment of a Part-Time Payroll Clerk to provide 3-month temporary cover due to staff absence. The role may be extended to 6 months.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to join a friendly and supportive practice, processing bureau payrolls for a varied portfolio of approximately 120 clients. The role offers flexibility around working days, with workloads naturally increasing towards month-end.

Key Responsibilities

Process weekly and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of approximately 120 clientsManage a mix of payrolls, from director-only companies to larger, more complex businessesProcess statutory payments including SSP, SMP and other payroll adjustmentsCalculate variable pay, multiple pay rates, holiday pay and overtime where requiredRespond to payroll queries and provide excellent client serviceEnsure payrolls are processed accurately and in line with current legislationUse Moneysoft Payroll Manager to administer payrolls efficiently

Key Requirements

Previous payroll experience, ideally within an accountancy practice or bureau environmentConfident processing payrolls for a varied client portfolioStrong understanding of statutory payroll requirements and auto-enrolmentExcellent organisational skills and ability to manage deadlinesConfident communicating with clients and resolving payroll queriesExperience using Moneysoft Payroll Manager is highly desirable

They are proud of their employee retention and are looking for someone who would be looking to develop long-term within the company.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on practice professional to manage their own portfolio while working within a close-knit and supportive team environment. The role would suit either an experienced Manager or a Senior Accountant looking for career progression into a manager role.

Key Responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of circa 100 clients, primarily sole traders and small limited companiesPrepare and review accounts, personal tax returns, VAT, CIS, bookkeeping, and MTD requirementsAct as the main point of contact for clients, building strong long-term relationshipsSupport onboarding of new clients and oversee client billingAssist with CGT matters and wider client compliance requirementsManage and support a small team of junior staffWork across IRIS and cloud-based accounting software platforms

Key Requirements

ACCA qualified (Part-qualified/QBE candidates encouraged to apply)Strong experience within an accountancy practice environmentConfident managing client relationships and onboarding new clientsExperience across accounts, personal tax, VAT, bookkeeping, and CISKnowledge of IRIS and cloud accounting systemsOrganised, approachable, and hands-on in your working styleComfortable managing and mentoring junior staff
