The Opportunity

Butler Rose is delighted to be supporting an established and successful South West-based business in the appointment of a Financial Controller.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing multi-entity organisation and take ownership of the finance function, working closely with senior leadership to provide meaningful financial insight and support strategic decision-making.

The successful candidate will lead a small finance team and play a key role in enhancing reporting, forecasting, controls and processes across the business.

Key ResponsibilitiesPreparation of monthly and quarterly management accountsProduction of detailed financial reports, including profitability and performance analysisBudgeting, forecasting and financial planningCash flow management and forecastingAnalysis of financial performance against budgets and previous periodsManagement and reconciliation of inter-company transactionsOversight of VAT returns, payroll and compliance activitiesLiaison with external accountants and advisersManagement and development of a small accounts teamReview and improvement of financial processes, controls and reporting proceduresSupporting directors with timely and accurate financial information to aid decision-makingAbout You

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similarStrong management accounting and financial reporting skillsExperience preparing budgets, forecasts and cash flow projectionsExperience operating within a multi-company or group environmentThe ability to communicate financial information clearly to senior stakeholdersPrevious experience supervising or managing finance staffStrong Excel and accounting systems experienceA proactive and commercially-minded approach with a focus on continuous improvement

ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualifications are welcomed, although qualified by experience and part-qualified candidates will also be considered.

Previous experience within the construction sector, including exposure to CIS and subcontractor accounting, would be advantageous but is not essential.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys working within an SME environment and wants to play a key role in supporting business performance and decision-making.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting and providing valuable insight to support strategic business decisions.

Key responsibilities include:
