Interim Accountant / Audit Preparation Specialist
Immediate Start | Abingdon | Contract until end of January 2027 | Inside IR35

I am currently recruiting for an experienced Interim Accountant / Audit Preparation Specialist to support a business through a critical period of audit preparation and year-end activity.

This is a hands-on role requiring someone who can quickly get to grips with the UK accounts, identify what is required ahead of the audit and provide clear direction to the wider finance team.
The UK accounts ultimately feed into the group finance function in Europe, so accuracy, organisation and strong financial controls will be essential.

Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of preparing the UK accounts for the upcoming auditReview the current financial records and identify any gaps or outstanding informationLiaise with the external auditors and respond to audit queriesAnticipate what information and supporting schedules the audit team will requireProvide structure and direction to the finance team throughout the audit processPrepare and reconcile key balance sheet accountsSupport UK VAT reporting and complianceAssist with P11D requirements and associated recordsEnsure the UK accounts are accurate and ready for reporting into the groupResolve historical accounting issues where requiredMaintain strong UK financial controls throughout the assignment

Essential Experience

We are looking for someone with strong practical accounting experience who can confidently work independently from day one. You will need:

Strong SAP experienceExcellent knowledge of UK VATExperience of P11D reportingPrevious audit preparation experienceStrong bookkeeping and reconciliation skillsExperience supporting or managing an external auditThe ability to identify what auditors are likely to require and prepare the necessary supporting informationStrong attention to detail and the confidence to provide direction where processes are unclearA professional accounting qualification is not essential practical experience, technical knowledge and the ability to take ownership of the audit preparation process are more important.
