HR Business Partner (Team Lead) - Manufacturing Sector

Exeter £55,000 + Company Bonus

We're proud to be partnering with a highly respected manufacturing business in Exeter to recruit an experienced HR lead. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and proactive HR professional looking to take the next step into a leadership role within a fast-paced, operationally focused environment.

This position is ideal for someone with a solid grounding in generalist HR who thrives in a hands-on setting and is confident leading a small team, supporting line managers, and driving forward corporate HR initiatives.

The Role:

Working closely with the Head of HR, you'll take the lead on team coordination, employee relations, HR policy, and compliance reporting. You'll also support HR activity across multiple sites, with a strong focus on workforce planning, staff engagement, and continuous improvement.

You'll be a key player in shaping how HR supports the wider business-from managing KPIs and leading internal audits, to coaching team members and advising on complex ER matters.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and oversee the daily workflow of the HR team, including team briefings and inbox triageAct as deputy to the Head of HR and represent HR at senior level meetingsGuide the HR team on employment law updates and complex employee relations cases.Maintain and update all HR policies, audits, and compliance registers.Support delivery of L&D programmes, workforce planning, and salary benchmarkingManage monthly reports including attrition, overtime, absence, and organisational structure.Build strong relationships with line managers and union representativesProvide strategic input into corporate HR initiatives and change management projects.

What We're Looking For:

Strong HR experience within a manufacturing or industrial environmentDemonstrated ability to lead or mentor HR team membersIn-depth knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR complianceConfident in handling complex ER matters, including disciplinary and grievancesCIPD Level 5 qualifiedExcellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills

Key Responsibilities

Lead and Develop the HR Function
Act as a trusted advisor to senior managers and department heads, driving a forward-thinking and strategic HR agenda.
Create a clear HR strategy on improvements which need to be implementedRecruitment and Onboarding
Manage and oversee all recruitment activities, ensuring a fair, consistent, and compliant hiring process.
Lead a comprehensive onboarding experience to ensure new employees are welcomed and set up for success.Performance and Training
Ensure timely and effective probation reviews are carried out by line managers.
Deliver and support routine training programmes, such as Equality and Diversity, to promote awareness and capability across the business.HR Compliance and Administration
Draft and issue compliant employment contracts and variations in line with employment legislation.
Monitor adherence to Working Time Regulations (1998) and maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK Employment Law.Employee Relations and Support
Advise and guide line managers through the full disciplinary and grievance processes, from investigation to resolution.
Handle sensitive HR matters with discretion, fairness, and legal compliance.Employee Engagement and Culture
Promote a positive and inclusive working environment.
Support and collaborate with team leaders to implement initiatives that boost employee morale and engagement.

What We're Looking For

A driven, experienced HR professional with a forward-thinking and strategic mindset.A deep understanding of employment lawCIPD Level 5 or aboveEnthusiastic personality with a passion for continuous improvement.Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.Strong attention to detail and sound judgement.Proven ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR systems.
