An established and growing accountancy firm is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Chelmsford office. Working with a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses and SMEs, this role will suit an experienced practice accountant who enjoys hands-on client work, building strong client relationships, and supporting the development of junior team members within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.

Role Responsibilities

Managing a varied portfolio of clients, ensuring all financial reporting and submissions are accurate and compliant.Preparing and submitting year-end accounts, corporation tax computations, VAT returns, and confirmation statements.Building and maintaining strong client relationships, acting as a trusted point of contact.Managing client expectations and leading meetings to finalise accounts.Supporting and mentoring junior team members through training and guidance.Reviewing client deliverables including accounts, tax, PAYE, and VAT work to ensure deadlines are achieved.Handling client queries professionally and providing clear, practical advice.Assisting with improving internal processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.Maintaining high standards across client files and compliance work.

Personal Requirements

ACA, ACCA or AAT qualified or nearly qualified.Strong experience working within an accountancy practice environment.Proficient with accounting software and systems.Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior staff members.Excellent communication and client management skills.Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.Self-motivated, adaptable, and committed to delivering a high level of client service.
