Assistant Tax Manager
Birmingham (Hybrid)
Salary up to £50,000 (DOE)

Butler Rose, public practice is delighted to be supporting one of our clients a well established firm based in Birmingham. They've got a great opportunity for an Assistant Tax Manager to join their team. You will work closely with the Directors and collaborate with the international offices, gaining exposure to interesting and complex tax matters. This role is designed as a step towards Manager level, offering the right candidate the opportunity to build confidence, develop technical depth, and take on increasing responsibility

Role Requirements-

Manage a portfolio of clients, taking responsibility for their UK tax compliance with support from senior team members.Prepare and begin reviewing UK tax returns, developing confidence in identifying issues and ensuring accuracy.Support the review process by assisting Managers and Directors on more complex returns.Assist in overseeing and supporting junior staff, including reviewing straightforward work and helping monitor deadlines.Begin to take a more active role in managing workflow and prioritising jobs across your portfolio.Prepare advisory work for individuals and assist on more complex planning projects.Develop confidence in dealing with client queries and gradually take a more front-facing role.Work with internal teams and support coordination with international offices where required.Identify technical issues and carry out research with support, building towards more independent judgement.Contribute to team development and participate in internal training.

Person Responsibilities -

Strong experience in personal tax, with good exposure to compliance and some review experience.CTA qualified (or close to completion) - Ideal but not essential.Developing experience in reviewing work and supporting junior staff.Increasing confidence working autonomously, with appropriate escalation.Exposure to double tax treaties, residency issues, and international tax matters is desirable.Exposure to US tax or internationally mobile clients is advantageous.Developing client-facing skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally.Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines.High attention to detail and commitment to quality.Proactive mindset with ambition to progress to Manager level.

An established and growing accountancy practice is seeking a Tax Assistant to join its team and work closely with an experienced Tax Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with personal tax experience who is looking to develop their career within practice. The role will involve preparing personal tax returns, supporting clients with their tax affairs, assisting with HMRC communications and contributing to more complex tax and trust work.

Role Responsibilities

Gather, organise and review information received from clients.Prepare and file personal tax returns accurately and within relevant deadlines.Assist with HMRC communications and correspondence.Ensure client tax deadlines and compliance requirements are met.Support the Tax Manager with larger and more complex tax projects.Assist clients with the Making Tax Digital (MTD) process.Provide support with trust-related tax work.Maintain accurate and organised client records.Liaise with clients to obtain outstanding information and documentation.

Personal Requirements

At least 1 year of experience working on personal tax returns, ideally 2+ years.Previous experience within an accountancy practice is preferred.ATT qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience.Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.Good communication skills with the confidence to deal directly with clients.Able to manage deadlines and prioritise workload effectively.A willingness to develop technical tax knowledge and progress within the role.The firm is open to supporting ATT studies for the right candidate.

The team advises a broad portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts and estates, offering exposure to both compliance and advisory work, including inheritance tax planning, trusts, succession planning and international tax matters. Role Responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of personal tax clients, ensuring a high standard of service.Prepare, review and submit personal tax returns.Advise clients on a broad range of personal tax matters.Work with high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates and offshore structures.Prepare and review IHT reporting, including IHT100 and IHT400 forms.Liaise with HMRC regarding enquiries, investigations and voluntary disclosures.Identify tax planning opportunities and contribute to advisory projects.Support succession planning, inheritance tax planning and trust-related work.Assist with business development and identify opportunities to grow client relationships.Mentor and support junior members of the tax team.Work alongside senior managers and partners on complex private client projects.Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge through continued professional development.
