Build Your Finance Function. Partner with a Private Equity Group

An ambitious and rapidly growing Private Equity-backed group is seeking a commercially minded Private Equity Portfolio Finance Manager to build and lead a scalable, "accountancy practice style" finance function supporting a diverse portfolio of businesses.

This is a rare opportunity to create something significant from the ground up.

Initially, the function will provide accounting, finance, compliance, payroll, and advisory support the businesses within the group's investment portfolio, spanning multiple sectors.

Long term, the vision is even bigger.

The group plans to grow the finance function in line with the continued growth of existing, and acquisition of new business, and offering accounting advisory services to external businesses by leveraging the extensive network and commercial relationships of the Private Equity group and its senior partners.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to help build a highly valuable business.

The opportunity

You will establish and lead a central finance and accounting function operating with the quality, structure, and commercial mindset of a modern accountancy practice.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders, investors, and portfolio leadership teams to create a scalable, high-performing finance capability capable of supporting rapid growth and future acquisitions.

The ideal individual will combine the credibility of a Big 4 or top-tier practice background with the commercial mindset required to operate within a fast-moving Private Equity environment.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee daily accounting operations, workflows, and operational proceduresBuild scalable systems, controls, and service delivery processesSupport senior partners with strategic planning, growth initiatives, financial targets, and KPI monitoringDrive continuous improvement across finance operations and client service delivery

Client & Portfolio Management

Build strong relationships across the Private Equity portfolioManage key commercial and technical queriesAct as a trusted finance advisor to business leaders and stakeholdersLiaise with clients, HMRC, external providers, and professional advisors

Financial Oversight & Compliance

Manage WIP, billing, debtors, and practice performance metricsEnsure compliance across GDPR, AML, regulatory standards, and internal controlsPrepare and review:Statutory accountsVAT returnsCorporation tax returnsCIS returnsPayroll activities (local, bureau, outsourced)

About you

We are seeking a commercially minded and ambitious finance leader who wants to build something substantial.

You will likely be:

A Chartered Accountant (ACA / ACCA or equivalent)Minimum 5 years PQEIdeally from an practice background Experienced within practice leadership, advisory, or commercial finance environmentsCommercially strong and confident operating with senior stakeholders and investorsExperienced in managing teams, workflows, and client relationshipsMust have demonstrable experience preparing and managing CIS returnsStrong understanding of Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) regulations and compliance requirements

Exposure to Mergers & Acquisitions, due diligence, or acquisition integration would be highly desirable. Most importantly, you will have the ambition and mindset to help build a highly successful finance function.

A well-established independent organisation in West Berkshire is seeking an Accounts & Finance Assistant to join its finance team as soon as possible. Due to the urgency of this hire, applications from candidates who are immediately available or available on a short (1 week) notice period are particularly welcomed.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will support the day-to-day operation of the finance function, providing assistance across purchase ledger, sales ledger, reconciliations, billing, reporting and general finance administration.

Key Responsibilities
* Daily bank reconciliations and cash management support
* Processing supplier invoices, expenses and payment runs
* Maintaining purchase and sales ledgers
* Supplier statement reconciliations
* Raising customer invoices and assisting with credit control
* Petty cash administration
* Supporting month-end and year-end processes
* Assisting with management reporting and budget updates
* Maintaining accurate finance records and documentation
* Providing finance and administrative support across the organisation
About You
* Minimum 2 years experience within an accounts or finance role
* Experience of bank reconciliations, purchase ledger and/or sales ledger
* Strong Excel and IT skills
* Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability
* Able to manage priorities and meet deadlines
* Professional communication skills and a proactive approach
* Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Desirable
* AAT qualified or studying towards a finance qualification
* Experience within education, charity or not-for-profit sectors
* Exposure to finance or ERP systems
Package
* Salary: £28,000 - £32,000
* 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
* 20 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
* Study support available
* Potential hybrid working flexibility during school holiday periods following probation

This is an excellent opportunity for a part or recently qualified (ACCA/CIMA) or early-career analyst to join a business undergoing transformation, where you'll play a key role in improving reporting, driving insight, and supporting strategic decision-making.

The Opportunity

Working closely with the Finance Manager and wider business, you'll take ownership of opex and headcount reporting, helping to shape budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis.

This role offers strong exposure to senior stakeholders and a clear pathway into commercial finance / FP&A.

Key Responsibilities
* Monthly reporting and analysis of operational expenditure and headcount
* Partnering with budget holders to track performance vs budget
* Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning cycles
* Delivering insights into cost drivers and performance trends
* Assisting with month-end close activities where required
* Supporting process improvements and automation initiatives
* Producing ad-hoc analysis and contributing to finance projects

About You
* Part or recently qualified (ACCA/CIMA)
* 2-5 years' experience in a finance or analytical role
* Strong Excel skills, including financial modelling
* Experience with reporting tools (e.g. Power BI, SAP, or similar) advantageous
* Commercially aware with the ability to interpret and present data clearly
* Confident communicator, able to build relationships across the business
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail
