Management Team

Simon Wicks, CEO

Simon has worked in accountancy and finance recruitment since 1997. He initially spent six years with Hays Accountancy & Finance, where he grew the Swindon team before moving into a regional role heading up Hays’ qualified finance division. He then moved to Reed in 2003 where he swiftly established Reed Finance in the Southwest and South Wales, before a series of promotions which saw him grow the brand across the South, East, Midlands and London. Simon moved to Sheridan Maine as a Board Director in 2012 where he successfully established a brand new accountancy and finance business for them in the Southwest, before moving to nGAGE in 2014 to become CEO of Butler Rose.

Simon has an in-depth knowledge of the accountancy and finance recruitment market, combined with a track record of strategically growing successful teams whilst delivering first-class service to a range of client organisations.

In his spare time, Simon enjoys good food, travelling and spending time with his three sons. He also has an interest in particle physics and is a member of a Poker league!


Gareth Dagger, Associate Director - Devon, Cornwall, Somerset

Gareth has over 10 years’ experience of working in the Devon, Cornwall & Somerset markets, having previously worked as a Business Director for a global recruiter. During his time here he built a number of successful teams, and achieved year-on-year growth for nine consecutive years.

Gareth is very well networked in the Accountancy & Finance market in the South West and has worked with a wide range of organisations in varying sectors, from SMEs to PLCs. He has recruited from newly qualified level, through to Finance Director & CFO roles, on both a retained assignment and contingency basis. He prides himself on providing an honest and consultative approach, offering impartial advice and understanding the pressures that go with recruiting a new member of staff or finding that next job. Gareth's ultimate aim is to find the right candidate for the right role, every time.

Outside of work, Gareth likes to spend time with his family and enjoys most sports. He plays football in a local league and also follows Exeter Chiefs, watching as many games as he can each season at Sandy Park.


Anthony Tait, Associate Director – Milton Keynes and South Midlands

Anthony has been in recruitment since 2004, when he joined Reed and swiftly won the ‘Best Newcomers’ award. He swiftly carved himself a niche in the accountancy and finance market, and in recent years has managed one of the most successful teams in Reed Finance, seeing year-on-year growth for 3 years. Anthony joined Butler Rose in 2014 to head up the South Midlands division.

Anthony has vast experience in the mid-to-senior level accountancy and finance marketplace, with a large network of loyal clients and candidates. He has a proven track record of attracting talent into a range of clients from SMEs to large corporates, including working on an array of search and selection assignments.

In his spare time, Anthony likes fine dining, travelling and keeping fit. He also has a keen interest in many sports and in current business affairs.


Samantha Powell, Executive Consultant - Oxfordshire

Samantha began her career in accountancy and finance recruitment in 2002. Since this time she has worked with a range of clients from SMEs to large blue-chip companies, building a loyal client and candidate base through delivering excellent client service. After joining her previous employer Reed Finance in 2010 Samantha won the Overall Newcomer award across the whole of the Reed recruitment business in her first 12 months.

Samantha has a particular specialism in senior and executive level roles within her chosen geographical markets, and we were delighted to welcome Samantha to Butler Rose in 2014.

Outside of work, Samantha loves travelling, fine wine and dining, and is passionate about rugby.  She likes to force herself outside of her comfort zone and take up a pursuit or activity every 3 months: to date this has included rock climbing, indoor skydiving, Segway and ‘Spheremania’!


Karen Rich, Divisional Manager - Southampton

Karen Rich has worked as a senior and executive level financial recruiter in the South Coast, Hampshire and Thames Valley areas since 1997. Having worked for an international accountancy recruiter, she joined Reed Accountancy and subsequently became a founder member of the qualified specialist, Reed Finance in 2004.

Karen played a key part in the success of this business, having created and managed highly successful teams across the Hampshire, Berkshire, Dorset, Sussex and Surrey areas. She is also a hands on recruiter, having worked closely with a network of key clients and candidates to ensure a high quality service and consistent results.

In her spare time Karen enjoys spending time with her young daughter, swimming and outdoor activities.


Helen Francis, Regional Director - North

Helen has responsibility for the Northern Network of offices at Butler Rose which spans the Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and Lancashire markets. Helen has 22 years' Accountancy Recruitment experience following working within Finance and becoming CIMA part-qualified.

Helen has grown her career from ‘highest company biller’ within a boutique recruitment business at its inception to growing and developing teams for a plc business and rapidly growing independents. Helen has operated across all markets from temporary transactional to senior qualified appointments, establishing excellent candidate and client relationships developing her career successfully from management to directorship for leading brands in the market.

In her spare time Helen is a keen and regular gym goer and you will find her at the mercy of ‘Bootcamp’ on a Saturday morning. She enjoys fine dining and spending time with her teenage daughter.


Darren Cadman, Divisional Manager – Preston

Darren has over 14 years experience of specialist recruitment partnering across the North West in geographical areas which include Central and East Lancashire, Bolton Wigan and Merseyside. During his career he has managed and built highly successful teams of in both boutique and global recruiting businesses and remains a specialist himself in the recruitment of senior personnel throughout Finance.

Well networked throughout the local area, Darren has successfully placed finance leadership across the North West and partnered a variety of organisations in both the Public and Private sectors, from SMEs to PLCs. Starting his career recruiting transactional talent and part Qualified accountants, he now operates in the Qualified space and is highly regarded for retained and specialist headhunt campaigns at the Finance Director & CFO level.

With a true understanding of the local market, the sector as a whole and with a national reach Darren remains a true recruitment partner to some of the UK’s most prestigious enterprises, as well as an abundance of exciting and growing SME’s across the North.

With a young family and active social life Darren enjoys playing and watching many sports. Playing Petanque is one of his passions and attending games at Goodison Park one of his passions, even though results can be varied and a frustrating end to many a Sunday afternoon!


Davina Cripps, Divisional Manager – Manchester

Davina has come on board to launch the Manchester office of Butler Rose and brings with her 17 years recruitment experience. Prior to joining Butler Rose, she spent 10 years at Reed Finance recruiting Permanent & Interim Qualified Finance staff (newly Qualified through to CFO) within the Manchester Commerce & Industry and Public sector markets, on a retained & contingent basis.

Davina is very well connected in the Manchester area and has a proven track record of delivering excellent service to both Clients & Candidates.

Outside of work, Davina enjoys spending time with family and has a great love for travel, having been fortunate enough to visit every continent in the world, minus Antarctica! She also likes fitness, and last year took part in the Great Manchester 10k run where she raised over £1,000 for Alzheimer’s Society.
